Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple

This ancient cave temple, built during the Vijayanagara period by Kempe Gowda I, is renowned for its unique rock-cut architecture and holds the distinction of being a state heritage site.

The temple is a spiritual haven for devotees seeking darshan of Lord Shiva and other deities including Agni, Shakti Ganapathi, Nandi, Parvati, Subramanya, Ayyappa, Durga, Dakshinamurthy, Kalabhairava, and the Navagrahas.

Visitors can experience the divine atmosphere of Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple during its opening hours from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

The best times to visit are early mornings between 5–8 AM, during evening aarti, in the winter months from November to February, on weekdays for a less crowded experience, or during the festival season and the annual brahmotsavam.

The temple observes a traditional dress code: men are recommended to wear dhoti or trousers with a shirt, while women are encouraged to wear sarees or salwar kameez, ensuring modest attire.

Devotees can participate in free darshan and attend poojas such as Ghee Abhisheka and daily aartis conducted in Kannada and Sanskrit, with aarti performed both in the morning and evening.

During major festivals like Makar Sankranti in January and Maha Shivaratri in February or March, the temple becomes a vibrant hub of spiritual activity. On such occasions, annadanam is organized, and prasadam such as holy ash (vibhuti), butter, or fruit is distributed to devotees.

Reaching the temple is convenient for pilgrims. From Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic), one can take a city bus or auto-rickshaw towards Chamarajpet and then proceed to Gavipuram Extension in Kempegowda Nagar.

Alternatively, the National College Metro Station on the Green Line is about 1.2–1.5 km away, from where visitors can walk or hire an auto-rickshaw.

The nearest railway station is KSR Bengaluru City Junction (Majestic), located 4.5 km away, and Kempegowda International Airport is about 39 km from the temple.
