About

Gorakhnath Temple, also known as Gorakhnath Math or Gorakhnath Mandir, is a prominent pilgrimage centre and ancient temple located in the Gorakhnath area of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Revered as a living heritage temple, it is associated with the Nath tradition and has undergone significant renovations by Mahant Digvijay Nath and Mahant Avaidyanath.

The temple stands out for its mixed and renovated architectural style, reflecting the influences of various yogis and followers over time. The temple is dedicated to the spiritual lineage of the Nine Naths (Navnath) and also houses shrines for deities such as Ganesha, Shiva, Bhairava, and Kali.

Devotees can participate in a range of poojas, including the Mangala Aarti held from 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM, Bhog Aarti from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and Sandhya Aarti from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Abhishek ritual is also performed here.

Poojas are conducted in Hindi and Sanskrit, catering to a wide range of devotees. Darshan at Gorakhnath Temple is free for all visitors, with the temple open daily from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM, though it may close between 11:30 AM and 4:00 PM.

The best times to visit are early morning (5–8 AM), during evening aarti, in the winter months (November to February), or during the festival season. The temple observes a modest dress code, recommending traditional or formal clothing for both men and women.

Gorakhnath Temple is renowned for its vibrant festivals, including the Khichdi Mela during Makar Sankranti in January, Mahashivratri in February-March, Guru Purnima in July, Gorakhnath Jayanti, Navratri & Vijayadashami, and Govardhan Puja during Diwali.

During these occasions, khichdi made of sesame, rice, and jaggery is distributed as prasadam, and regular annadanam is organized, especially during festivals. Reaching the temple is convenient, with Gorakhpur Junction railway station just 4.5 km away and Gorakhpur Airport about 9 km from the temple.

Auto-rickshaws, taxis, and app-based cabs are readily available in the city. Parking is available at the temple, though it can be congested during weekends and festivals.

Accommodation options include the temple guest house within the Mandir campus, as well as nearby hotels like Ramada by Wyndham Gorakhpur and Hotel O CITI VISTA. Nearby attractions include Geeta Vatika Temple (3.5 km), Gorakhnath Temple Pond, Ramgarh Tal (7 km), and Vishnu Mandir.

Photography is generally not allowed inside the main temple. For more information, visitors can refer to the official website or contact the temple directly at +91 551 225 5454.
