Ethipothala Sivalayam

Also locally known as Ethipothala Dattatreya Temple, this ancient pilgrimage centre is uniquely set on a hill and along the riverbank, offering devotees a tranquil and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

The temple also houses a shrine for Ranganatha (Vishnu), reflecting the harmonious blend of Shaivite and Vaishnavite traditions. The temple is open for darshan from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with free entry for all devotees.

Traditional attire is recommended for both men and women, ensuring a respectful and serene environment for worship. Rituals such as Abhishekam and Archana are performed in Telugu, allowing devotees to participate in the spiritual proceedings.

Light prasadam, including pulihora and sweet pongal, is distributed to visitors, and Annadanam is organized during major festivals, especially Maha Shivaratri.

Ethipothala Sivalayam is particularly vibrant during festivals such as Maha Shivaratri (February-March), Karthika Masam (November-December), and Navaratri/Dussehra (October).

Reaching Ethipothala Sivalayam is convenient via multiple routes. From Hyderabad, take NH65 towards Vijayawada, then turn towards Nagarjuna Sagar/Macherla road and follow signs to the Ethipothala park area. From Guntur, travel towards Macherla and take the state highway to Nagarjuna Sagar.

Local buses and taxis are available from Macherla, and clear signboards guide visitors to the temple. The final approach involves descending steps from the entrance to reach the temple at the foot of the waterfalls.
