About

Ekvira Devi Temple Karla, also known locally as Ekvira Aai Mandir or Ekveera Devi Mandir, is a revered hill temple situated in Vehergaon, Karla, in the Pune district of Maharashtra.

Dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman), the temple is also home to Jogeshwari Devi and several parivara devatas, making it a significant pilgrimage centre for devotees seeking blessings and spiritual solace.

Set atop a hill near the famous Karla Caves, the temple is an ancient site with a living heritage status, having evolved through local community patronage and regional traditions. There is no single documented royal builder, and its historical period remains unknown or disputed.

The temple’s unique location and spiritual ambiance attract pilgrims and visitors from across Maharashtra and beyond. The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Early morning hours, especially between 5 to 8 AM, are considered the best time to visit, offering a serene atmosphere for darshan. Winters (November to February), the monsoon season (June to September), and major festival periods are also recommended for a fulfilling pilgrimage experience.

Darshan at Ekvira Devi Temple is free, with no entry fee. The temple observes a strict dress code: men are expected to wear traditional Indian attire or modest formal clothing, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or decent kurtis. Revealing or inappropriate clothing is not permitted.

Daily poojas and rituals are conducted in Marathi, Hindi, and English. The Kakad Aarti (morning aarti) begins at 5:00 AM, while the Maha Aarti (evening aarti) takes place at 7:00 PM. Nitya Pooja and Abhishek are also performed regularly.

Major festivals celebrated here include Chaitra Yatra (annual fair), Chaitra Navratri, Sharad Navratri, Makar Sankranti, and Diwali (Lakshmi Puja), with large-scale bhandara (food distribution) during festival times. To reach the temple, pilgrims can travel by road or rail to Lonavala or Malavli.

From the Mumbai-Pune Expressway or NH-48, take the exit towards Karla/Lonavala and proceed via Ekvira Devi Road to the parking area at the foothills of Karla Caves. From there, a climb of 350–500 stone steps leads to the temple.

Palakhi/doli services are available for elderly or mobility-impaired visitors, though the temple is not wheelchair accessible. Ample parking is available at the base, with nominal fees.

Accommodation options range from budget cottages at MTDC Karla to upscale resorts like Treasure Island and Fariyas Resort Lonavala. Nearby attractions include Karla Caves, Valvan Dam, Bhaja Caves, Sunil’s Celebrity Wax Museum, and Della Adventure Park.

Photography is allowed only in outer areas, with restrictions inside the sanctum and a strict ban on drones. For more information, visit the official website at https://shriekviradevsthan.com/ or contact +918446485396.
