Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple

The temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti, also known locally as Chottanikkara Amma or Sree Rajarajeshwari.

Devotees also worship other deities here, including Mahavishnu, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh, Lord Subramanya, Brahma, Dharma Sastha, serpent gods (Nagas), and Goddess Bhadrakali, making it a vibrant spiritual destination for seekers from across India.

Free darshan is available for all visitors, and a strict dress code is enforced: men are required to wear traditional white or cream mundu/dhoti, with shirts, vests, and trousers not permitted inside the inner sanctum, while women are expected to wear sarees or full Salwar Kameez, with western attire discouraged.

A wide range of poojas and offerings are available, such as Pushpanjali/Archana, Trimadhuram, Vella Nivedyam, Ashtotharam Pushpanjali, and special poojas like Swayamvara and Saraswathi Pushpanjali. The Valiya Guruthi or Guruthi Pooja, performed daily at 8:45 PM, is a significant ritual.

Prasadam includes tirtham, kumkum, sandalwood paste, and nivedyam items like Trimadhuram, payasam, and appam. The temple is also known for its daily free community meals (Annadanam), especially during Mandalam season and festivals.

Major festivals celebrated here include Makom Thozhal (February–March), Navaratri/Vijayadasami (September–October), Mandala Mahotsavam and Thrikkarthika (November–December), Vishu (mid-April), and Ramayana Masam & Illam Nira (July–August).

The best time to visit is early morning (5–8 AM), during evening aarti, in winter (November–February), or during festival seasons.
