Bhagabati Temple Banpur

Dedicated to Goddess Shakti, this ancient temple stands as a significant pilgrimage centre on the banks of a river, reflecting the distinctive Kalinga architectural style.

The temple's roots trace back to the Chola period, with its construction attributed to the Eastern Ganga dynasty and later royal patronage from the Gajapati Maharaja of Puri and King Jagannath Manasingh.

Recognized as an ASI-protected monument and a living heritage site, Bhagabati Temple continues to be managed by a local panchayat trust. Devotees can visit the temple for darshan from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Entry for darshan is free for all visitors.

Shorts, sleeveless, or revealing clothes are discouraged, especially inside the sanctum. For prasadam, Mahaprasad or Anna Prasad is available daily at a nominal price, and free mass-feeding is organized during major festivals or donor-sponsored days.
