Belur Math Sri Ramakrishna Temple

This revered temple is a living heritage site, conceptualized by Swami Vivekananda and constructed under the guidance of Swami Vijnanananda, with the support of Martin Burn & Company and funding from Miss Helen Rubel and Mrs. Anna Worcester.

The temple’s unique mixed and renovated architectural style reflects a harmonious blend of traditions, making it a significant spiritual and cultural landmark in the region.

The temple is dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna, with additional shrines for Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda, and Swami Brahmananda.

Devotees can participate in daily poojas such as the Morning Mangalarati, which begins around 4:30 AM (with temple doors opening at 6:30 AM), and the Evening Arati (Aratrikam) held at dusk, typically between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM, with timings varying by season.

Poojas are conducted in Sanskrit and Bengali, offering a spiritually immersive experience for visitors.

Belur Math is open for darshan with free entry, and the temple timings are as follows: mornings from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and evenings from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM (April to September) or 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM (October to March). The temple remains closed during the midday hours.

The best time to visit is during the winter months (November to February), early mornings (5–8 AM), evening aarti time, or during the vibrant festival season.

Reaching Belur Math is convenient from Howrah Junction (6.3 km by taxi, bus, or suburban train to Belur Station, then a short auto/toto ride), from Kolkata via taxi, bus, or ferry to the Belur Math jetty, and from Belur Railway Station (2 km by auto/toto or a 20-minute walk).
