Antpur Radha Govinda Temple

This temple stands as a fine example of Bengali (Chala) architecture and is recognized as a state heritage site, managed by local panchayat and trust bodies.

Built by Krishna Ram Mitra, Dewan of Bardhaman Raj, the temple’s historical period remains unknown or disputed, adding an air of intrigue to its legacy. The primary deity worshipped at Antpur Radha Govinda Temple is Lord Vishnu, accompanied by Radha.

The temple complex also houses shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva in various forms (Gangadhara, Fuleswara, Rameswara, Jaleswara, Baneswara) and Goddess Durga/Chandi, making it a spiritual hub for devotees of multiple Hindu traditions.

Daily rituals include Nitya Puja & Darshan, conducted in Bengali and Sanskrit, offering devotees a traditional worship experience. Darshan at the temple is free for all visitors.

The temple opens its doors in the morning from 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and again in the evening from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, with extended hours up to 8:00 PM seasonally.

The best times to visit are during winter months (November to February) and early mornings (5–8 AM), when the serene village atmosphere enhances the spiritual experience. Antpur Radha Govinda Temple is well-known for its vibrant festivals.

Major celebrations include Janmashtami & Radhashtami in August-September, Dol Utsav (Holi) in March, Rasa Yatra and Nabanna in November, and the Charak/Gajan Festival in April.

During these occasions, traditional sweets and dry bhog are distributed after daily aartis, and community feasts (Mahaprasad) are organized. However, there is no daily mass annadanam.

Visitors are advised to follow the dress code: men should wear modest, traditional, or casual conservative clothing, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis with covered legs and shoulders.

Photography of the temple’s exterior terracotta panels from the courtyard is generally permitted, but interior photography may be restricted—please check local signage.

Reaching Antpur is convenient via suburban trains from Howrah Station to Haripal Railway Station (16 km from the temple), followed by a local bus, trekker, or shared auto to Antpur.

By road, the temple is accessible from Kolkata or Howrah via Dankuni and Shiakhala, covering about 42–46 km in 1.5–2 hours. The nearest airport is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, 58 km away.

Accommodation options are limited to a guest house or dormitory at Antpur Ramakrishna Math, with basic local lodges available. Most pilgrims opt to stay in Kolkata or Howrah and visit Antpur as a day trip.
