About

Anegudde Sri Vinayaka Temple, also known locally as Anegudde, Kumbhashi, or Nagachala, is a revered hill temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha in Kumbhashi, Udupi district, Karnataka.

Recognized as a significant pilgrimage centre and ancient temple, it draws devotees from across the region seeking blessings and spiritual solace. The temple is also home to Mahalingeshwara, adding to its spiritual significance.

Situated conveniently on NH-66, the temple is easily accessible from major towns. From Udupi, it is a 30 km drive north towards Kundapura, with a turn-off at Kumbhashi.

Devotees coming from Kundapura travel 9 km south, while those from Mangalore can reach Kumbhashi after approximately 96 km on NH-66. The temple is just a 10-minute walk or a short auto-rickshaw ride from the Kumbhashi bus stand.

The temple is open daily from 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM, offering free darshan to all visitors. Early morning and morning hours are considered the best times for darshan, especially during winter (November to February), the festival season, and the annual brahmotsavam.

The temple observes a traditional dress code: men are encouraged to wear dhoti or formal pants with shoulders and knees covered, while women are recommended to wear saree or salwar kameez.

Anegudde Sri Vinayaka Temple is known for its rich schedule of poojas and sevas conducted in Kannada and Sanskrit.

Daily rituals include Nirmalya Visarjane at 6:00 AM, Tulabhara Seva and Aksharabhyasa at 7:30 AM, Panchamrutha Sahitha Kalashabhisheka at 11:00 AM, Mahapooje & Annadana at 1:00 PM, and Rangapooja at 6:00 PM.

Major festivals celebrated here include Ganesha Chaturthi in August-September, Sankashta Chaturthi every lunar month, and the Rathostava (Car Festival) in the first week of December. The temple serves free lunch (prasadam) daily after 1 PM, featuring rice, sambar, coconut chutney, and sheera.

For accommodation, the temple trust provides basic rooms and guest houses, while more options are available in Kundapura and Udupi. Ample free parking is available at the base and on top of the hill, and the temple is accessible for seniors and the physically challenged.
