About

Ahobilam Narasimha Swami Temple, nestled in the scenic Nallamala Hills of Ahobilam, Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh, is a revered pilgrimage centre and one of the celebrated Divya Desams.

Also known locally as Navanarasimha Kshetram, Thiru Singavel Kundram, and Garudachala, this ancient hill temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is renowned for its unique association with the nine forms of Lord Narasimha: Ugra Narasimha, Lakshmi Narasimha, Jwala Narasimha, Malola Narasimha, Kroda (Varaha) Narasimha, Karanja Narasimha, Bhargava Narasimha, Yogananda Narasimha, Chatravata Narasimha, and Pavana Narasimha.

The temple complex is divided into Lower Ahobilam and Upper Ahobilam, each with distinct darshan timings. Lower Ahobilam is open from 6:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, while Upper Ahobilam welcomes devotees from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Darshan options include free entry and a special darshan facility for a nominal fee of ₹50. Pilgrims are advised to adhere to the traditional dress code: men should wear dhoti or kurta-pyjama, and women should opt for sari, churidar, or salwar kameez with dupatta.

Ahobilam Narasimha Swami Temple is a living heritage temple with roots dating back to the Vijayanagara period, expanded by King Krishnadevaraya.

The temple celebrates vibrant festivals such as Brahmotsavam (February–March), Pavitrotsavam (October), Dasara Navaratri (September–October), and Narasimha Jayanti.

Devotees can participate in a variety of poojas, including Dhanurmasa Pooja, Pavitrotsavam, Abhishekam during Dasara/Navaratri, Saswatha Kalyanam, Nitya Abhishekam, and the monthly Swathi Nakshatram Pooja. Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Telugu.

Reaching the temple is convenient: travel to Allagadda, the nearest town on the Nandyal-Jammalamadugu road, then take a local bus, shared jeep, or auto-rickshaw to Ahobilam village.

Lower Ahobilam serves as the entry point, while Upper Ahobilam is 8 km further up a ghat road, accessible by jeep or local bus. The nearest railway stations are Nandyal Junction (60 km) and Kadapa Railway Station (150 km).

For air travelers, Kurnool Airport (130 km), Kadapa Airport (150 km), and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad (333 km) are the closest options.
