Vajreshwari Yogini Devi Temple

Dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman), the temple is also home to shrines of Goddess Renuka, Goddess Kalika, Saptashrungi Mahalakshmi, Lord Parshurama, Lord Ganesha, Lord Bhairava, Hanuman, and Lord Kapileswar (Shiva), making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees of multiple deities.

With origins dating back to the Maratha period, the temple was built in 1739 CE by Chimaji Appa, a prominent Maratha general, with subsequent additions by the Gaikwads of Baroda and local noblemen.

Today, it is managed by a panchayat/local trust and stands as a living heritage temple, drawing pilgrims and tourists throughout the year. The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, offering free darshan to all visitors.

Devotees can participate in a series of poojas conducted in Marathi and Sanskrit, including the Patra Pooja or First Aarti at 5:30 AM, Madhyan Aarti at 11:15 AM, Naivedhya between 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM, Padhya Pooja in the evening at 7:00 PM, Sandhya Aarti at 8:15 PM, and Shejarti at 9:00 PM marking the temple’s closing.

After aarti, prasadam such as kumkum, holy water, fruit, or sweets is distributed, and during major festivals and fairs, large-scale Mahaprasad and annadanam are organized.

The best time to visit Vajreshwari Yogini Devi Temple is during winter (November to February), in the early morning hours, or during vibrant festival seasons.

Major festivals celebrated here include Vasanti Navaratri (Chaitra Navaratri), Chaitra Fair (Vajreshwari Yatra), Sharad Navaratri, Kojagiri Poornima, Shravan Month Rituals, Diwali, Holi, Datta Jayanti, and Hanuman Jayanti.

Reaching the temple is convenient for pilgrims traveling from Mumbai or Thane. By road, take the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway (NH 48) or Ghodbunder Road, turning off at Shirsad Naka towards Vajreshwari town. By train, alight at Virar or Vasai Road stations and continue by bus, taxi, or auto.

The nearest railway stations are Virar (27.6 km), Vasai Road (25 km), and Khadavli (31 km), while Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai is 68 km away.

Visitors should note the dress code: traditional or formal cultural attire is recommended for men and women, with modest coverage expected. Paid parking is available near the foothills, but the temple is accessed by climbing 52 steps, which may pose challenges for those with mobility restrictions.
