About

Kopineshwar Temple Thane, also known locally as Kaupineshwar Mandir or Shri Koupineshwar Mandir, is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva.

Located in the bustling area of Jambli Naka / Shivaji Path in Thane, Maharashtra, this temple stands as a significant spiritual landmark with a rich historical legacy dating back to the Chola period.

The temple was originally built by the Shilahara dynasty and was later rebuilt by Sarsubhedar Ramaji Mahadeo Bivalkar in 1760 CE, making it a living heritage temple that continues to attract devotees and visitors from across the region.

The sanctum of Kopineshwar Temple enshrines Lord Shiva as the main deity, while the temple complex also houses shrines for other revered deities including Lord Rama, Lord Brahma, Lord Hanuman, Shitala Devi, Uttareshwar (Kashi Viswalingeswar), Lord Dattatreya, Goddess Kali, Kala Bhairav, Gayatri Devi, Vasistha Maharshi with Kamdhenu, and Garuda.

This makes the temple a vibrant centre for worship and spiritual activities, catering to a wide spectrum of devotees. Devotees can participate in various poojas such as the early morning Panchamrit Pooja at 4:00 AM, Laghurudra or Rudrabhishek, and Maharudrabhishek.

Rituals and prayers are conducted in multiple languages including Sanskrit, Marathi, Hindi, and English, making the temple accessible to a diverse group of worshippers. The temple offers free darshan to all visitors, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere.

Kopineshwar Temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:30 PM and again from 3:30 PM to 10:00 PM, providing ample opportunity for darshan and participation in temple activities.

The best times to visit are during the winter months (November to February), early mornings between 5 to 8 AM, during evening aarti, or in the festival season when the temple comes alive with vibrant celebrations.

Major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri (February/March), Shravan Month Somvar (August/September), Holi & Rang Panchami (March), Navratri & Dussehra (September/October), Diwali & Deep Prajwalan (October/November), Geeta Jayanti (December/January), and Guru Jayanti / Dattatreya Jayanti.

During these occasions, prasadam is offered after daily prayers and evening aartis, with community bhandaras organized for devotees. For those unable to visit in person, Kopineshwar Temple offers online darshan through their official website.
