About

Thiruvallur Veeraraghava Perumal Temple, also known locally as Veeraraghava Swamy Temple and Arulmigu Vaidya Veeraraghava Swamy Temple, is a revered Divya Desam and ancient pilgrimage centre located on Panagal Street in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is a significant spiritual destination for devotees, with other deities worshipped here including Lakshmi (as Kanakavalli Thayar or Kamalavalli Thayar), Lord Rama, Andal, Narasimhar, and Chakrathazhvar.

The temple is renowned for its Dravidian architecture, reflecting its origins in the Pallava period, with later contributions from the Thanjavur Nayaks. As a living heritage temple, it stands as a testament to centuries of devotion and architectural excellence.

Pilgrims visiting Thiruvallur Veeraraghava Perumal Temple can experience a vibrant spiritual atmosphere, especially during major festivals such as the Chitra Festival (April-May), Brahmotsavam, Pavitra Utsavam, and the monthly Purnima (Full Moon) celebrations.

Darshan at the temple is available through multiple entry types, including free darshan, special darshan, and seeghra darshan, catering to the needs of all visitors.

The temple operates from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and reopens from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with the best time to visit being early morning (5–8 AM), during evening aarti, or in the festival season for an immersive experience.

Poojas are conducted in Tamil and Sanskrit, with daily rituals such as Thiruvanandal (Dawn) at 6:00 AM, Kalasanthi at 8:00 AM, Uchikalam at 12:00 PM, Sayarakshai at 6:00 PM, and Ardha Jamam at 8:30 PM. A special Thayar Puja is performed on Fridays, drawing many devotees.

Visitors are requested to adhere to the temple dress code: men should wear dhoti with shirt or kurta and avoid shorts or lungis, while women are encouraged to wear saree, salwar kameez, or chudidhar with dupatta.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, and cameras may be allowed in the outer corridors upon checking with security. The temple is easily accessible from Chennai Central by local train to Thiruvallur Railway Station, which is about 3 km away.

From the station, auto-rickshaws and local buses are available to Sannathi Street. By road, the temple can be reached via the Chennai-Tiruvallur High Road (NH 716) or from Kanchipuram, approximately 56 km away. Chennai International Airport is the nearest airport, located 45 km from the temple.

Lodging is available at temple mutts and various standard and budget hotels near the railway station and main road in Tiruvallur.

Pilgrims can also enjoy prasadam such as Puliyodharai, Dhadhyannam, Pongal, Chakkarai Pongal, Vada, Adhirasam, and Murukku, with traditional annadanam generally available.
