Swaminarayan Temple Kalupur

Revered for its spiritual significance, this ancient and royal temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, with sanctums also devoted to Radha Krishna Dev, Harikrishna Maharaj, Dharmadev, Bhaktimata, and Ghanshyam Maharaj.

The temple’s architecture is a unique blend of styles, reflecting a mixed and renovated design that resonates with its historical roots from the British colonial era.

Commissioned by Lord Swaminarayan (Sahajanand Swami) and constructed by Ananandanand Swami on land granted by the British Government, the temple is recognized as a state heritage and a living heritage temple.

It draws devotees and visitors throughout the year, especially during major festivals such as Nar Narayan Dev Jayanti (Patotsav) in February-March, Fuldol Utsav (Holi) in March, Guru Poornima Mahotsav in July, Shakotsav in January, and Diwali with Annakut celebrations in October-November.

The temple is open daily from 5:30 AM to 12:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with free darshan available to all visitors.

Devotees can participate in a series of poojas and aartis conducted in Gujarati and Sanskrit, including Mangla Aarti at 5:30 AM, Shangaar Aarti at 6:30 AM, Rajbhog Aarti at 8:05 AM, Sandhya Aarti at 7:15 PM, and Shayan Aarti at 8:15 PM.

The best time to visit is during the winter months (November to February), early mornings, or during the evening aarti for a serene spiritual experience.

The temple maintains a strict dress code: men are required to wear traditional attire or decent formal clothing, while women should opt for saree, salwar kameez, or modest churidar. Shorts, sleeveless, or revealing clothes are not permitted.

Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum and main shrine areas. For those seeking prasadam, traditional consecrated sweets or dry snacks are distributed after major aartis, and community meal services are available at the temple's bhojanalay.

Accommodation is convenient, with an on-site guest house (Shree Swaminarayan Vishranti Bhavan) and a range of hotels nearby. Reaching the temple is straightforward: arrive in Ahmedabad by air, rail, or bus, and head to the Kalupur area.

The temple is just 2 km from Ahmedabad Junction railway station and 9 km from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Dedicated parking is available, though access for large vehicles may be challenging due to narrow lanes, and wheelchair accessibility is provided at the primary entrance.
