About

Camp Hanuman Temple Shahibaug, also known locally as Camp Hanuman Mandir, Jalalpur Village Hanumanji Temple, or Shree Camp Hanumanji Mandir, is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre dedicated primarily to Lord Hanuman.

Situated in the Shahibaug area within the Ahmedabad Cantonment of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, this temple holds a significant place for devotees seeking darshan and spiritual solace.

The temple’s origins trace back to the British colonial era, with its formal establishment attributed to Pandit Gajanan Prasad, while the original shrine dates to the early British and Gaekwade military period.

The temple showcases Dravidian architectural style and is managed under a local panchayat trust. Alongside Lord Hanuman, the sanctum also houses idols of Lord Rama and Mata Sita, attracting devotees from across the region.

Camp Hanuman Temple is especially vibrant during major Hindu festivals such as Hanuman Jayanti (March-April, Chaitra), Diwali and Kali Chaudas (October-November), and Navratri (September-October, Ashwin), making these periods the best time to visit.

Early mornings between 5 and 8 AM and the winter months from November to February are also recommended for a peaceful darshan experience. Darshan at the temple is free for all visitors.

The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Sundays to Fridays, with extended timings on Tuesdays and Saturdays (6:00 or 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM).

Special poojas include the Morning Aarti (6:30 AM on Sun-Fri, 5:30 AM on Sat), Evening Aarti (6:30 PM on Sun-Fri, 5:30 PM on Sat), as well as Sundarkand recitation and Hanuman Chalisa group chanting on Tuesday evenings. Rituals are conducted in Gujarati, Hindi, and Sanskrit.

Devotees can partake in prasad, with boondi or besan ladoos available at a nominal cost, and annadanam or bhandara organized especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Visitors are expected to follow a modest dress code: men should wear full trousers or jeans with shirts, while women are advised to opt for traditional Indian attire or conservative outfits with covered shoulders. Shorts, sleeveless tops, and revealing clothing should be avoided.

Photography, video recording, and vlogging are strictly prohibited within the temple premises. Reaching the temple is convenient, with Ahmedabad Junction (4.5 km) and Sabarmati Railway Station (4 km) nearby, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport just 5.8 km away.

Private vehicles are not permitted inside the cantonment; parking is available outside the main gate, and battery carts are provided for the elderly or disabled for the 0.5 to 1 km walk to the temple.

Accommodation options are plentiful within a 2.5–4 km radius, including Hotel Elysian Residency, The Ummed Ahmedabad, Hotel Siddhartha Palace, and Ginger Ahmedabad.

Nearby attractions include Sabarmati Riverfront, Sardar Patel Museum, Sabarmati Ashram, Hutheesing Jain Temple, Kamla Nehru Zoo, and The Adalaj Stepwell. For more information, visitors can refer to the official website or contact the temple directly.
