About

Sri Nallamala Chenchu Lakshmi Temple, also known locally as Chenchu Mallayya or Srisaila Kshetra, is a revered pilgrimage centre nestled in the Nallamala Hills, Bandi Atmakur Mandal, near Srisailam in Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh.

This ancient temple stands as a significant Jyotirlinga and Shakti Peetha, drawing devotees of Lord Shiva and Goddess Bhramaramba from across the country.

The temple’s Dravidian architecture, shaped during the Vijayanagara period by the Kakatiyas, Reddi Kings, and the Vijayanagara Empire, adds to its spiritual and historical allure.

The primary deity worshipped here is Lord Shiva, accompanied by Goddess Bhramaramba, Chenchu Lakshmi, Pathala Ganga, Sakshi Ganapathi, and various forms of Shiva.

The temple is renowned for its vibrant pooja rituals, with Abhishekam performed between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM, and a special Chenchu Lakshmi puja available. Samoohika Kalyanam is another important ritual offered. Poojas are conducted in Telugu, catering to the local devotees and pilgrims.

Darshan at Sri Nallamala Chenchu Lakshmi Temple is accessible through both free and special entry options, with the special darshan available for a nominal fee.

The temple is open for darshan from 6:30 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, making early mornings, festival seasons, and evening aarti times particularly auspicious for visits.

Devotees are encouraged to observe the traditional dress code: men are preferred to wear dhoti (Panchakattu) for rituals, though kurta-pyjama or pants and shirts are accepted, while women are recommended to wear saree, chudidar, or salwar kameez with a dupatta.

Festival celebrations are an integral part of the temple’s spiritual calendar, including Brahmotsavam (February–March), Narasimha Jayanthi (April–May), Sankranti (January), and Sravana Masam (July–August).

Pilgrims can relish prasadam such as Puliyotharai (Tamarind Rice) and Pulihora, with daily annadanam (free food) provided. Reaching the temple is convenient, with routes from Nandyal, Hyderabad, and Kurnool passing through the scenic Nallamala forest.

APSRTC buses and private taxis are readily available. The nearest railway stations are Markapur Road, Nandyal Junction, and Kurnool Station, while Hyderabad Airport and Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy Airport in Kurnool are the closest airports.

Accommodation is plentiful, with Devasthanam guest houses like Ganga Sadan, Yadava Sadan, and Padmavati Guest House, as well as several budget and mid-range hotels in Srisailam town.

Visitors can explore nearby attractions such as Pathala Ganga, Srisailam Dam, Sakshi Ganapathi Temple, Paladhara-Panchadhara, Akkamahadevi Caves, and the Nallamala Forest Drive.

Free, large, unpaved parking is available, and photography is permitted in the temple premises with restrictions inside the main sanctum. For more details, the official website is https://srisailadevasthanam.org, and the temple can be contacted at +91-8333901351.
