About

Sri Kumararama Bhimeswara Swamy Temple Samalkot, also known locally as Sri Chalukya Kumararama Bhimeswara Swamy Temple, Kumararama, Bhimarama, or Kumararamam, is a revered Pancharama kshetra and ancient pilgrimage centre situated in Jaggamma Garipeta, Samalkot, Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is recognized as an ASI-protected monument, reflecting its historical and architectural significance.

Built by the Eastern Chalukya king Chalukya Bhima I, the temple stands as a fine example of Dravidian architecture and is an important spiritual destination for devotees and heritage enthusiasts alike.

The temple complex houses not only the main sanctum of Lord Shiva but also shrines for other deities including Goddess Bala Tripura Sundari, Kala Bhairava, Lord Ganapathi, Dakshinamurthy, Sapthamathas, Dattatreya, Saraswathi, Chandikeshwara, and the iconic Ekasila Nandi.

The sanctum is located on the first floor, accessible via stone steps, while the temple grounds offer basic amenities including open parking and wheelchair-accessible layouts at ground level. Devotees can participate in daily darshan from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Both free and special darshan options are available, with special darshan tickets priced at ₹20. Poojas such as Abhishekam and Prasadam Seva are offered at ₹300 each, while Saswatha Abhishekam and Saswatha Prasadam can be performed once a year on a requested date for ₹1116.

Rituals are conducted in Telugu and Sanskrit, ensuring a traditional spiritual experience. Pulihora (tamarind rice) and vibhuti/kumkum are distributed as prasadam, and extensive annadanam is organized during major festivals.

The temple observes significant festivals including Maha Shivaratri and Kalyana Mahotsavam (February–March), Karthika Masam (October–November), Margashira Masam (November–December), and Saran Navaratrulu (October), attracting large gatherings of devotees.

The best time to visit is during winter, festival seasons, early mornings, or during evening aarti. Visitors are required to adhere to a traditional dress code: men should wear dhoti, kurta-pyjama, or formal attire, while women are expected to wear saree, half-saree, or salwar kameez with dupatta.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, though limited photography of outer mandapas may be tolerated. Reaching the temple is convenient, with Samalkot Junction railway station just 2 km away. Auto-rickshaws are readily available from the station and bus stand.

Rajahmundry Airport is 38 km away, and Visakhapatnam Airport is 135 km from the temple. For accommodation, budget hotels and lodges are available within walking distance, while upscale options can be found in Kakinada city, 15–16 km away.

Nearby attractions include Pithapuram, Kakinada Beach, Uppada Beach, and Hope Island, making this temple an ideal destination for both spiritual seekers and travelers. For further information, devotees may contact the temple at 7989389266.
