Saptamatrika Temple Jajpur

This temple is a significant pilgrimage centre and is protected as an ASI monument, showcasing the distinctive Kalinga style of architecture.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Amman) and houses the idols of the seven mother goddesses—Brahmani, Vaishnavi, Shivaduti (Indrani), Narasimhi, Chamunda, Kaumari, and Varahi—along with Budha Ganesha and Veerabhadra.

The Saptamatrika Temple is a prominent destination for devotees seeking darshan and spiritual solace. Daily rituals such as aarti, archana, and pushpanjali are performed in Sanskrit and Odia, creating a serene and devotional atmosphere.

Entry for darshan is free, and the temple welcomes visitors from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The best time to visit is during the winter months from November to February and in the early morning hours between 5 and 8 AM, when the ambiance is particularly tranquil.

The temple observes several important festivals, including Chaitra Parva (Mesha Sankranti) in March–April, Durga Puja/Navaratri in September–October, and Pithori Amavasya on every new moon day.

During these occasions, special poojas and offerings are conducted, and prasadam such as simple dry or fruit offerings, sindoor, and floral remnants are distributed to devotees. While there is no large-scale daily annadanam, food offerings are shared during festival days.

Visitors are advised to adhere to the traditional dress code: men should wear dhoti-kurta or full-length kurta-pyjama/pants, while women are encouraged to wear saree, salwar kameez, or other modest ethnic outfits.

Photography and video recording near the idols is strictly prohibited, though casual exterior photography may be permitted with the approval of local attendants. Reaching the Saptamatrika Temple is convenient from Jajpur Town or Jajpur Road (Byasanagar) by train or road.

From the town center or bus stand, auto-rickshaws and taxis are available to Dashaswamedha Ghat along the river.
