Saleshwaram Lingamayya Temple

Nestled deep within the scenic Nallamala Hills and the Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Saleshwaram Valley, this ancient rock-cut shrine is a significant pilgrimage centre in Lingal Mandal, Nagarkurnool district, Telangana.

The temple’s unique setting inside a natural cave, with its origins attributed to swayambhu (self-manifested) formations and early regional dynasties, draws devotees and adventure seekers alike.

Saleshwaram Lingamayya Temple is renowned for its limited accessibility, opening only for 3–5 days during the auspicious Chaitra Pournami (March–April), coinciding with the grand Saleshwaram Jatara festival. During this period, darshan timings are approximately from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The best time to visit is in the early morning between 5–8 AM or during the festival season, when the spiritual atmosphere is at its peak. Pilgrims can participate in special poojas, including Darshan and Abhishekam performed with the natural waterfall water, conducted in Telugu.

Entry for darshan is free, and a traditional dress code is observed: men are expected to wear modest attire such as dhoti, panche, kurta-pajama, or simple trousers and shirts, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or churidars with dupattas.

Reaching the temple involves a journey through the heart of the Nallamala forests. From Hyderabad, pilgrims travel towards Kalwakurthy via NH 765, then proceed to Achampet and onward to Mannanur, the entry point to the Amrabad Tiger Reserve.

From the forest checkpoint, a drive leads to the base point near Mallapur, followed by a challenging 4–6 km trek through rocky and forested terrain to the cave temple. Basic makeshift parking is available near the forest entry, but the route is not wheelchair accessible.

For those arriving by train, Markapur Road Railway Station is 90 km away, while Jadcherla and Mahbubnagar stations are within 115–125 km. The nearest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, about 150 km from the temple. Accommodation options near the shrine are limited.

Mannanur Forest Resorts and Jungle Camp require advance booking, while basic lodges are available in Achampet, 30–40 km away. Srisailam, a 2.5-hour drive, offers more choices.

During the Jatara, free Annadanam (meals and water) is provided by voluntary trusts and NGOs, though there is no permanent prasadam counter.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside or near the sanctum cave area, but landscape photography of the outer temple surroundings is allowed during the festival window.
