Raj Rajeshwari Temple Devalgarh

This ancient hill temple, also known locally as Maa Raj Rajeshwari Mandir and Dewalgarh Mandir Rajrajeshwari Mata, stands as a testament to the region’s spiritual and architectural heritage.

Recognized as an ASI protected monument and a state heritage site, the temple is attributed to King Ajay Pal, and its historical period remains unknown or disputed.

The temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman), and also houses shrines for other deities including Maa Gaura Devi (Goddess Parvati), Maa Tara Devi, Bhairon Ji (Batuk Bhairav), Nar Singh Devta (Narsimha), Shri Satyanath, Laxmi Narayan (Lord Vishnu), and Murli Manohar.

The Nagara (North Indian) architectural style of the temple complex is a striking feature, drawing visitors and devotees alike to its serene hilltop location. Darshan at Raj Rajeshwari Temple Devalgarh is free for all devotees.

The temple is open from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with seasonal variations in timings. Early mornings (5–8 AM) are considered the best time to visit, especially during the winter and summer months, as well as during the festival season.

Daily morning and evening aarti are performed, and special pujas or havans can be arranged on request. Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi, maintaining the temple’s traditional spiritual atmosphere.

The temple comes alive during festivals, particularly during Navratri (Chaitra and Sharad, in March–April and September–October) and the Annual Devalgarh Fair or Harvest Festival in April.

During these times, traditional prasad such as local sweets, mishri, and dry fruits are distributed, and community meals (bhandaras) are organized.

Visitors are requested to follow a modest dress code: men should wear trousers or dhotis with full shirts or kurtas, while women are advised to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or modest kurtas with covered legs.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, though casual photography of the outer premises is generally allowed, subject to local signage. To reach Raj Rajeshwari Temple, travelers can arrive at Srinagar (Garhwal) by road from Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, or Delhi.

From Srinagar, the temple is about 18–19 km away via the Khirsu - Srinagar Road, with local jeeps, shared taxis, or private cabs available.
