About

Nanda Bhawan Temple, also known locally as Nanda Bhawan, Nand Bhavan, Nandagram Temple, Nand Mahal, Nandishwar Temple, and Shri Nand Baba Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre situated atop Nandisvara Hill in Nandgaon, Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh.

This ancient hill temple holds great significance for devotees seeking spiritual experiences and darshan of deities associated with Krishna’s childhood.

The temple is dedicated to a unique pantheon, with Nanda Maharaj (Nanda Baba) and Yashoda Maiya as primary figures, alongside Lord Krishna, Balarama, Radha, Rohini, Revati, Sudama, and Madhumangala.

Pilgrims visit to offer prayers and participate in traditional poojas conducted in Hindi, such as the Mangala Aarti in the early morning (5:00/6:00 AM), Bhog (offerings), and the Sandhya Aarti in the evening after 4:00 PM.

The temple’s daily timings are Summer: 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM; Winter: 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM, making mornings and evenings especially popular for darshan and aarti.

Entry for darshan at Nanda Bhawan Temple is free, and visitors are encouraged to wear modest and respectful traditional Indian attire. Prasadam, especially sweets like Pedas, is distributed daily, with charitable food distribution (bhandara) organized during major festivals.

The temple comes alive during Holi/Huranga (March, the day after Holi), Janmashtami, and Nandotsav (August-September, the day after Janmashtami), making these periods the best time to visit.

The winter months (November to February), morning hours (8 AM–12 PM), and evening aarti time are also recommended for a comfortable and enriching visit. To reach Nanda Bhawan Temple, pilgrims can travel from Mathura or Vrindavan via the Mathura-Barsana Road, proceeding from Barsana to Nandgaon.

From Delhi or Agra, the Yamuna Expressway leads to Mathura, with state highways connecting to Barsana and Nandgaon. Visitors must park at the base of Nandisvara Hill (parking fee applies), then walk or climb steps through narrow lanes to the temple entrance.

The nearest railway stations are Kosi Kalan (15 km), Vrindavan (35 km), and Mathura Junction (50 km). For air travelers, Agra Airport is 110 km away, and Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi) is 130 km from the temple.

Accommodation is available in local dharamshalas and guesthouses in Nandgaon, with more options in nearby Barsana (8-10 km) and a wide range in Vrindavan and Mathura (30-50 km).

Nearby attractions include Shri Radha Rani Temple in Barsana, Shri Ter Kadamb, Yashoda Kund, Nand Baithak, and Sanket Van, making Nandgaon a spiritually rich destination for devotees and visitors alike. Photography may be restricted inside the main sanctum, so visitors are advised to respect temple guidelines.
