About

Madhur Sree Madanantheshwara Siddhivinayaka Temple, also known locally as Madhur Temple, Madhur Mahaganapathi Temple, and Madhur Anantheshwara Vinayaka Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre situated on the scenic banks of a river in Madhur village, Kasaragod, Kerala.

This ancient temple, recognized as a state heritage site, is renowned for its Kerala-style architecture and tranquil setting, making it a sought-after destination for devotees and spiritual seekers.

The temple’s primary deity is Lord Shiva, and it also houses shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Parvati, Kashi Vishwanatha, Dharmasastha, Subrahmanya, Durga Parameshwari, Veerabhadra, and Gulika.

The temple’s spiritual ambiance is enhanced by rituals and poojas conducted in Sanskrit, Malayalam, and Kannada, reflecting the cultural diversity of the region. Darshan at Madhur Temple is free for all visitors.

The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with a brief afternoon closure. Early morning and morning hours (5–12 AM) are considered the best times for darshan, especially during the winter months from November to February and during festival seasons.

The temple offers a variety of poojas, including Appam/Panchakajjaya/Rudrabhisheka (₹5), Ganapathi Homam (₹30), Payasam/Halupayasam (₹12), Udayasthamana Pooja (₹40), Sathyanarayana/Sankashtahara Chaturthi Pooja (₹300), and Shatharudrabhisheka (₹1001), among others.

Signature prasadam such as Appam (Nei Appam/Unniappam) is distributed, and devotees can partake in a free traditional lunch after the noon Mahapooja.

Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Ganesh Chaturthi (August–September), the annual Madhur Bedi festival, Maha Shivaratri (February–March), and Vishu Sankrama Utsavam (April). These occasions draw large numbers of pilgrims and are marked by vibrant rituals and celebrations.

Visitors are expected to follow a traditional dress code: men should wear dhoti or mundu and be bare-chested for entry into the inner sanctum, while women are advised to wear saree, long skirt, or salwar kameez. Reaching the temple is convenient from Kasaragod town, located about 7–8 km away.

Directions include arriving at Kasaragod via NH66, proceeding to Karandakkad Junction, and following Madhur Road northeast to Madhur village.

The nearest railway stations are Kasaragod and Kumbala (both 8 km away), while Mangalore International Airport (62 km) and Kannur International Airport (108 km) serve air travelers. Ample open-air parking is available at the temple.

For accommodation, multiple hotels and lodges are available in Kasaragod town, including Kalluvalappil Holiday Inn, Bekal Fort Residency, Deira City Residency, and 7 Suites Apart Hotel.

Nearby attractions include Shree Ananthapadmanabha Swamy Temple, Chandragiri Fort, Bekal Fort & Beach, and Malik Deenar Juma Masjid. Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum and main prayer areas, with varying permissibility around the outer grounds.
