Madayi Kavu (Thiruvarkadu Bhagavathy Temple)

This temple, celebrated for its Kerala-style architecture and deep-rooted spiritual significance, is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman).

It is also home to shrines for Lord Shiva, Saptha Matrikas, Veerabhadra, Lord Ganesha, Lord Ayyappan, Kshetrapalakan/Bhairava, Sree Pathaala Bhadra, Bhairavi, and Bhairavan, making it a vibrant centre for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

The temple is recognized as both a state and living heritage temple, with its origins linked to the Mushika kings and later the Kolathiri rulers.

Entry for darshan is free, and daily rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Malayalam.

Visitors are required to adhere to a strict dress code: men must wear a traditional mundu (dhoti) and avoid shirts, t-shirts, vests, and lungis inside the inner sanctum, while women should wear saree, set mundu with blouse, or other conservative traditional attire, with western clothing strictly prohibited.

Reaching Madayi Kavu is convenient, with directions from Kannur city via NH 66 or through Pappinisseri to Pazhayangadi, followed by a short drive up Madayipara hills. The nearest railway station is Pazhayangadi, just 2.8 km away, and Kannur International Airport is 48 km from the temple.
