About

Kusum Sarovar Temple is a revered pilgrimage centre and ancient riverbank temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, located amidst the scenic surroundings of Govardhan Hill (Giriraj Parvat) in Govardhan, Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh.

Also known locally as Sumana Sarovar, this temple is beautifully positioned between Radha Kund and Manasi Ganga, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees and visitors exploring the sacred Braj region.

The temple is renowned for its stunning Rajasthani architecture, reflecting the royal heritage imparted by its builder, Jat king Jawahir Singh, son of Maharaja Suraj Mal. The serene waters of Kusum Sarovar and the tranquil atmosphere create an ideal setting for meditation and devotion.

The temple enshrines Lord Krishna as the primary deity, with Radha and Narada Muni also venerated here, drawing pilgrims seeking darshan and spiritual solace. Kusum Sarovar Temple welcomes visitors daily from sunrise to sunset, approximately 6:00 AM to 7:00/8:00 PM.

The best time to visit is early morning between 5–8 AM or during the evening aarti, which takes place from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The temple is especially vibrant during the winter months (November to February) and during major festivals such as Radhashtami, Krishna Janmashtami (August-September), Govardhan Puja/Annakut (October-November), and Holi (March).

Poojas and rituals are conducted in Hindi, and the evening aarti is a highlight for many devotees. Darshan at Kusum Sarovar Temple is free for all visitors, and there is no camera fee for photography, allowing pilgrims to capture the temple’s picturesque beauty.

Modest dress is recommended for both men and women, with shoulders and knees covered, though there is no strict dress code.

Reaching Kusum Sarovar is convenient: travelers can arrive at Mathura Junction railway station (25 km away) or Govardhan Railway Station, and then take a taxi, private vehicle, or local bus to Govardhan.

From Govardhan town, auto-rickshaws or electric rickshaws are available to the temple, which is situated on the main road between Radha Kund and Govardhan Town. The nearest airports are Agra Airport (75 km) and Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi (150 km).

For accommodation, Govardhan town offers many ashrams, dharamshalas, and small hotels within 2-3 km, with mid-range hotels along the Govardhan-Radha Kund road. Limited, informal roadside parking is available, though the site has steps and may pose challenges for those with limited mobility.

After the evening aarti, prasadam is offered, and simple sattvic food or lunch may be available during festivals or by arrangement.

Nearby attractions include Radha Kund & Shyam Kund, Daan Ghati Temple, Narada Kund, and Uddhav Kund, making Kusum Sarovar Temple a central part of any spiritual journey in the region.
