About

Kuravi Veerabhadra Swamy Temple, also known locally as Kuravi Veerabhadra Swamy Kshetram or Kuravi Temple, is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre situated in the Thirmalapuram Road area of Kuravi, Mahabubabad district, Telangana.

Dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva in his fierce Veerabhadra Swamy form, the temple also houses sanctums for other deities including Bhadrakali, Lord Ganesha, Ramalingeshwara Swamy, Chandramouleeshwara Swamy, Kala Bhairava, Hanuman, Nagendrudu, Saptamatrikas, and the Navagrahas.

The temple’s architecture is a fine example of the Vesara style, reflecting its deep historical roots, having been originally built by Bheema Raju of the Vengi Chalukya Dynasty and later renovated by Betharaju I of the Kakatiya Dynasty.

Today, it is maintained as a living heritage temple under a panchayat/local trust. Devotees can visit the temple for darshan during the timings of 4:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Darshan options include free darshan, special darshan for ₹50, and VIP darshan for ₹100.

The temple follows a traditional dress code: men are encouraged to wear dhoti or kurta-pyjama, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or half-sarees, with western or revealing outfits not permitted in the inner sanctum.

A rich schedule of daily poojas is observed, beginning with Suprabhatha Seva at 4:15 AM, followed by Early Morning Puja, Arijitha Seva, Abhishekams, Nijadarshan, Alankara Seva, Archanas and Naivedyam, and continuing into the afternoon and evening with Swami Vari Kalyanam, Pradoshakala Puja, and Pavalimpu Seva.

Poojas are conducted in Telugu and Sanskrit. The best times to visit are during winter (November to February), festival seasons, early mornings between 5 and 8 AM, or during the evening aarti.

Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Maha Shivaratri Jathara (February–March), Makara Sankranti (January), Ugadi, Sri Rama Navami, Tholi Ekadashi, Bonalu, Vinayaka Chavithi, Dasara Navaratrulu & Vijayadashami, and Bathukamma.

During festivals, free mass Annadanam is organized, and prasadam such as Laddu, Pulihora, and Vaddanam is distributed after Naivedyam. Reaching the temple is convenient: arrive at Mahabubabad Town, then travel about 11 km south/southeast to Kuravi via local buses, auto-rickshaws, or cabs.

Mahabubabad Railway Station is the nearest (11 km), with Kazipet Junction/Warangal Railway Station (70 km) and airports at Warangal (60 km), Vijayawada (150 km), and Hyderabad (200 km) providing broader connectivity.

Accommodation options include hotels and lodges in Mahabubabad and modest guest houses near the temple. For those interested in exploring more, nearby attractions include Bheemuni Paadam Waterfalls, Pakhal Lake & Wildlife Sanctuary, Thousand Pillar Temple, and Warangal Fort.
