Kasivisvesvara Temple Lakkundi

Located in the southern part of Lakkundi village in Gadag district, Karnataka, this temple stands as a significant pilgrimage centre and an ASI-protected monument.

The temple is an outstanding example of Chalukya architecture, built by the Western Chalukya dynasty (Kalyana Chalukyas), and is admired for its intricate stone carvings and historical significance.

The main deity worshipped here is Lord Shiva, with Surya (the Sun God) also enshrined within the temple complex. Devotees can participate in darshan with free entry, and poojas are conducted in Kannada. The temple timings are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, remaining closed on Fridays.

For a serene and comfortable visit, the best time to visit is in the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM, during the winter months from November to February, or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Lakkundi Utsav, held in May–June, and Maha Shivaratri, observed between February and March. Visitors are encouraged to wear conservative and clean clothing, though there is no strict dress code for men or women.

After worship, devotees may receive basic prasadam such as vibhuti or teertha; however, there is no official daily annadanam at the temple. Reaching Kasivisvesvara Temple Lakkundi is convenient from various cities.

From Gadag, which is about 11–13 km away, travelers can take National Highway 67 towards Koppal, with taxis and KSRTC buses available from the Gadag bus stand.

Those coming from Hubballi (approximately 70 km) can drive east on NH67, while visitors from Hampi or Hosapete (about 50–60 km) can drive west towards Gadag via NH67. The nearest railway stations are Balganur Railway Station (8 km), Gadag Junction (13 km), and Kangihai Railway Station.

For air travelers, Hubli Airport is 69 km away, and Belgaum Airport (Sambre) is 128 km from Lakkundi. Accommodation is best found in Gadag city, 13 km from the temple, where options like Hotel Anugraha and other lodges near the bus stand are available.

Overnight stay options in Lakkundi itself are limited. Parking is available in unofficial open spaces near the temple, and the site is accessible on foot from village roads, though it is not specifically wheelchair accessible.

Photography is permitted both inside and outside the temple, with no fee for mobile or standard cameras.
