Jor Bangla Temple (Keshta Rai Temple)

Situated in the Dalmadal Para area, this ancient temple is recognized both as an ASI protected monument and as part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Built by Malla king Raghunath Singha II, the temple is renowned for its distinctive architectural style and intricate terracotta work, making it a must-visit destination for devotees and heritage enthusiasts alike.

The primary deity worshipped at Jor Bangla Temple is Lord Krishna, accompanied by other revered figures such as Radha, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (Shadbhuja), various manifestations of Lord Vishnu, Rama, Sita, Goddess Durga/Parvati, Ganesha, and Kartikeya.

The temple offers free darshan to all visitors, and poojas are conducted in Bengali, English, and Hindi, ensuring accessibility for devotees from different regions. Jor Bangla Temple welcomes visitors every day from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The winter months from November to February are considered the best time to visit, offering pleasant weather for exploring the temple and its surroundings.

The temple observes the Rasa Festival (Rasa Purnima) during November (Kartik–Agrahayan), adding a vibrant spiritual dimension to the experience for pilgrims and tourists. When planning your visit, modest attire is recommended.

Men are advised to wear trousers, dhotis, shirts, or kurtas, while sleeveless or revealing clothes are discouraged. Women should opt for traditional or modest casual wear such as sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis with full or knee-length bottoms. Reaching Jor Bangla Temple is convenient.

Arrive in Bishnupur town by train or road, then head to the Dalmadal Para or Rajdarbar area. Local auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws, or battery-operated Totos are readily available from Bishnupur Railway Station (4 km away) or the Bus Stand.
