Jagdish Temple Udaipur

Dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, this living heritage temple also houses shrines for Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Goddess Shakti (Parvati), Surya (the Sun God), and Garuda, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings from multiple deities.

The temple exemplifies the Nagara (North Indian) architectural style and was built by Maharana Jagat Singh I of the Mewar dynasty.

Pilgrims and visitors are greeted by 32 marble steps that lead up to the grand temple platform, offering a majestic view and a sense of serenity amidst the bustling old city.

The temple’s daily timings are from early morning, opening between 4:15 and 5:00 AM, until 1:00 PM, and then again from 4:00 or 5:15 PM to 10:00 or 10:30 PM. The best times to visit are early mornings (5–8 AM), during the evening aarti, or in the winter months from November to February.

A variety of poojas and aartis are performed throughout the day, including Mangala Aarti (4:30–5:00 AM), Dhoop Aarti (7:45–9:00 AM), Shringar Aarti (10:15–11:00 AM), Rajbhog Aarti (11:30 AM–12:00 PM), Gwal Aarti (5:30–6:00 PM), Sandhya Aarti (6:30–7:45 PM), and Shayan Aarti (8:15–8:45 PM).

These rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi, allowing devotees to immerse themselves in the spiritual ambiance. Entry for darshan is free, and traditional sweets, sugar crystals, or dry fruits are distributed as prasadam after major aartis.

Special Mahaprasadam or community meals are offered on Fridays and during major festivals, with mass feeding on festival days.

Jagdish Temple is also a vibrant hub during festivals such as Jagannath Rath Yatra (July), Krishna Janmashtami (August-September), Saawan Jhulan Utsav (July-August), Kalyug Teej Shringar (August), Nirjala Ekadashi (May-June), Sharad Purnima & Tulsi Vivah (October-November), Falgun Shringar & Rang Panchami (February-March), and Diwali (November).

For visitors, modest and traditional attire is required, with specific dress codes for men and women. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum, though casual photos are allowed in the outer courtyard.

The temple is not wheelchair accessible due to the steps, and there is no dedicated parking; visitors can use the City Palace parking area, about 150–200 meters away.
