Jagannath Temple Baripada

Also locally known as Dwitiya Srikshetra, Second Sreekhetra, and Shri Shri Hari Baladev Jew Bije, this temple is celebrated for its spiritual significance and Kalinga architectural style.

The temple complex houses not only Lord Jagannath (Vishnu) but also sanctums for Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, Sudarshana Chakra, Maa Laxmi, Maa Vimala, Lord Hanuman, and Lord Ganesh, making it a vibrant centre for devotees seeking darshan of multiple deities.

The temple’s daily rituals are conducted in Odia and Sanskrit, with a sequence of traditional poojas including Dwara Phita (Opening of doors), Mangala Alati, Mailam, Abatara/Abakasha (Bathing ritual), Surya Puja, Dwarapala Puja, and food offerings such as Sakala Dhupa (morning), Madhyahna Dhupa (midday), and Sandhya Dhupa (evening).

Photography and video recording are strictly prohibited inside the main shrine and near the inner sanctum, though casual photography of the outer architecture is generally tolerated from a respectful distance.

Devotees are advised to follow the temple’s dress code: men should wear modest traditional or casual Indian attire, avoiding shorts or sleeveless clothing within the inner sanctum, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis/jeans with appropriate coverage.
