Firingi Kali Temple

This living heritage temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti, with additional shrines for Goddess Sitala, Goddess Manasa, and a Shivalinga representing Lord Shiva.

The temple is renowned for its traditional Bengali (Chala) architectural style, which reflects the cultural essence of the region. Located near Calcutta Medical College and College Square, the temple is easily accessible from Central Kolkata via Chittaranjan Avenue or M.G. Road.

Pilgrims can reach Bowbazar by city buses, auto-rickshaws, or by walking from Central Metro Station, which is just 0.5 to 0.8 km away. Those arriving by train will find Sealdah Railway Station at a distance of 2.5 km and Howrah Junction Railway Station about 5.5 km away.

For air travelers, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is approximately 14 km from the temple. Firingi Kali Temple welcomes devotees for free darshan daily, with temple timings from 7:00 AM to 12:15 PM and 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

The Nitya Puja, conducted in Sanskrit and Bengali, takes place during these hours. The temple comes alive during major festivals such as Kali Puja (Shyama Puja/Dipanwita Amavasya) in October-November, Kaushiki Amavasya in August-September, and Phalaharini Kalika Amavasya in May-June.

These occasions are marked by special vegetarian bhog offerings and large-scale community feasts on the last Sunday of each month, while basic dry sweets or fruits are distributed daily.

Visitors are advised to follow a modest dress code: men should wear traditional or casual attire, avoiding shorts and sleeveless vests, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or similar modest clothing.

Photography is generally restricted inside the main sanctum, though casual photos in the outer courtyard may be permitted with prior approval.
