About

Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Temple, also known locally as Edupayala Durgamma Devasthanam or Sri Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Devalayam, is a revered pilgrimage centre nestled along the riverbank in Nagasanpalli, Papannapet Mandal, Medak district, Telangana.

This ancient cave temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman), with sanctums also devoted to Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha, and Saraswati, making it a significant destination for devotees seeking darshan and spiritual solace.

The temple’s unique cave architecture and its picturesque location by the river attract pilgrims and visitors year-round. The structure, influenced by the medieval Kakatiya era, stands as a living heritage temple managed by a local trust.

While the exact historical period remains unknown, the temple’s spiritual aura and natural setting make it a tranquil retreat for worshippers. Darshan at Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Temple is free for all devotees.

The temple is open from 5:30 AM to 6:30 PM on weekdays and Saturdays, with extended hours on Sundays from 5:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Early morning visits between 5 and 8 AM are considered ideal, especially during the winter months (November to February) and the vibrant festival season.

A variety of poojas are performed daily, including Abhishekam (5:30 AM – 6:30 AM), Alankarana (6:30 AM – 7:00 AM), and Vedaparayanam (8:00 AM – 11:00 AM). Special poojas such as Archana (₹20) and Kumkumarchana (₹500) are available, with rituals conducted in Telugu and Sanskrit.

Major festivals celebrated here include Edupayala Jatara during Maha Shivaratri in February, Dasara/Sharad Navaratri in September-October, and Bonalu/Sravana Masam in July–August, drawing large gatherings of devotees.

The temple upholds a traditional dress code: men are encouraged to wear dhoti, kurta-pyjama, or formal trousers with shirts, while women should opt for sarees, half-sarees, or salwar kameez. Shorts and sleeveless shirts are discouraged within the main sanctum.

Reaching the temple is convenient by road from Hyderabad, passing through Gandi Maisamma Circle, Medak, and then to Nagasanpalli via Papannapet/Edupayala Road. The nearest railway stations are Akkannapet Junction (19 km), Kamareddy (60 km), and Secunderabad/Hyderabad (110 km).

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad is about 146 km away. Accommodation options include Haritha Hill Resort by Telangana Tourism, local lodges in Medak town (18 km), and basic temple cottages, especially during festivals.

Devotees can partake in traditional prasadam such as laddu and pulihora, and free Annadanam is regularly organized, particularly on Tuesdays, Sundays, and during the annual Jatara. Parking is available near the temple entrance, with both free and paid options.

While wheelchair accessibility is limited in rocky stream areas, the main approach paths are manageable with assistance. Photography is allowed in the outer courtyards and natural surroundings, but strictly prohibited near the main deity and inner sanctum.

Nearby attractions include Medak Fort (14 km), Medak Cathedral (17 km), and Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary (35 km), making Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Temple a spiritually enriching and scenic destination in Telangana.
