About

Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple Ananthagiri, also known locally as Ananthagiri Temple or Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Devasthanam, is a revered hill temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Nestled in the serene Ananthagiri Hills near Burgupally, Vikarabad, Telangana, this ancient pilgrimage centre stands as a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan and tranquility amidst lush forest surroundings.

The temple is renowned for its Dravidian architecture and holds a heritage status under the local panchayat trust.

The present structure, built about 400 years ago by a Hyderabad Nawab and later patronized by the 7th Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, reflects a blend of historical and spiritual significance.

The sanctity of the site is further enhanced by its association with Sage Markandeya, who is believed to have originally sanctified the location. Devotees visiting the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple can participate in various poojas conducted in Telugu and Sanskrit.

The Abhishekam, performed from 4:30 AM to 6:30 AM, is a special ritual, while other poojas like Suprabhatham, Archana (with a nominal fee of ₹20), and Alankaram are also observed. The temple offers free darshan for all visitors, making it accessible to pilgrims from all walks of life.

Temple timings are structured to accommodate both early risers and evening visitors: the temple is open from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM (extended to 2:00 PM on Sundays), and again from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

For those seeking a peaceful experience, early morning hours (5–8 AM), winter months (November to February), monsoon season (June to September), and weekdays are considered the best times to visit due to lighter crowds.

The temple observes several important festivals, including Vaikunta Ekadasi (December–January), Sri Ramanavami (March–April), Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Vratham or Anant Chaturdashi (August–September), and Maha Shivaratri. Prasadam and annadanam (free food) are generously offered to devotees.

Reaching the temple is convenient: from Hyderabad, travel approximately 75 km by road to Vikarabad, then proceed about 7 km to Ananthagiri Hills, following the signs to the temple near Burgupally.

The nearest railway station is Vikarabad Junction, and the closest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. Accommodation is available in Vikarabad town and in resorts or guesthouses near Ananthagiri Hills.

Ample open-air parking is available near the temple, though visitors should be prepared for some steps and uneven stone pathways. Photography is strictly prohibited near the main deity and inner shrine, but generally allowed in the outer premises unless otherwise indicated.

Nearby attractions include the Musi River origin point, Ananthagiri Viewpoint, and local trekking trails, offering pilgrims a holistic spiritual and nature experience.
