About

Amruteshwar Temple Ratanwadi, also known locally as Amruteshwar Mahadev Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva.

Located in the scenic village of Ratanwadi in Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) district, Maharashtra, this ancient temple sits on the banks of a river and is surrounded by lush hills, making it a sought-after destination for devotees and travelers alike.

The temple is also home to shrines for Lord Ganesha, Sheshayi Vishnu, and Madhava, reflecting its spiritual significance and inclusive worship traditions.

The temple is recognized as an ASI protected monument and is traditionally attributed to the Shilahara dynasty, with King Jhanjha often mentioned in its historical context.

Although the exact period of construction is unknown or disputed, the temple’s unique architectural style and intricate stonework are a testament to its antiquity and cultural heritage.

Amruteshwar Temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the best times to visit being early morning (5–8 AM), morning hours (8 AM–12 PM), and during the evening aarti.

The monsoon season (June to September), winter months (November to February), and festival periods are especially popular for darshan and pooja. Devotees can participate in traditional rituals such as Rudrabhishek, Bilvarchana, and Archana, conducted in Marathi and Sanskrit.

Free darshan is available to all visitors, and simple prasadam like vibhuti, kumkum, and fruits is distributed during special worship by the temple priest.

The temple observes major festivals such as Maha Shivratri in February-March and Shravan Maas in July-August, drawing pilgrims from across Maharashtra and beyond.

Visitors are requested to adhere to a traditional or modest dress code: men should wear dhoti, kurta, or full-length trousers and shirts, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or conservative kurtis with full coverage. Reaching Amruteshwar Temple involves a scenic journey.

From Pune or Nashik, travelers can reach Bhandardara/Shendi via NH060, or from Mumbai/Thane via Kasara–Igatpuri–Ghoti–Rajur. From Bhandardara, Ratanwadi is about 17-18 km away by a rough road (SUV recommended), or visitors can opt for a motorboat ride across Arthur Lake followed by a short walk.

The nearest railway stations are Ghoti (50 km), Igatpuri (59 km), and Ahilyanagar (161 km), while Nashik Airport (90 km), Pune International Airport (175 km), and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (180 km) are the closest airports.

Basic homestays are available in Ratanwadi village, with more accommodation options like MTDC Resort and private campsites around Bhandardara/Shendi. Ample open free parking is provided next to the temple, though the terrain and steps may pose challenges for elderly or wheelchair users.

Photography is permitted in the outer courtyards and for the temple’s architecture, but not inside the inner sanctum.

Nearby attractions include Ratangad Fort, Bhandardara Dam (Wilson Dam), Umbrella Falls, Randha Waterfall, and Kalsubai Peak, making Amruteshwar Temple Ratanwadi an ideal spiritual and nature getaway in Maharashtra.
