Swami Samarth Maharaj Temple Akkalkot

This ancient ashram temple is dedicated to Swami Samarth Maharaj, who is regarded by devotees as an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya.

The temple’s origins trace back to the residence of devotee Cholappa, later expanded by the Bhosle rulers of Akkalkot and temple trusts such as Shree Swami Samarth Sansthan and Shri Vatvruksha Swami Samartha Devasthan.

The best time to visit is early morning between 5 and 8 AM, during winter months (November to February), or in the festival season.

The temple observes a modest dress code: men are expected to wear traditional or formal attire such as dhotis, pajamas, or trousers with kurtas or shirts, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or chudidhars with dupattas, avoiding western or revealing clothing.
