About

Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple Visakhapatnam, also known locally as Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy Temple, Venkateswara Swamy Konda Temple, or simply Konda Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre situated atop Sri Venkateswara Konda in Chengal Rao Peta, Port Area, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Dedicated primarily to Lord Venkateswara, with Hanuman also worshipped here, this ancient hill temple is a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings.

The temple is renowned for its Dravidian architectural style and has roots tracing back to the British colonial era, having been built by the Kalyana Chalukyas.

Recognized as a living heritage temple, it continues to attract pilgrims and tourists alike, offering a tranquil atmosphere and panoramic views of the city and coastline from its hilltop location. Devotees can visit the temple during its daily timings: 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

The best time to visit is early in the morning between 5–8 AM or during the winter months from November to February, when the weather is pleasant. For darshan, the temple offers free entry, ensuring accessibility to all devotees. A variety of poojas and rituals are performed in Telugu and Sanskrit.

Notable poojas include GoPuja & Nithya Homam (7:00 AM – 7:30 AM), Bala Bogam (8:00 AM), Raja Bhogam (1:00 PM), Sayam Bhogam (8:00 PM), and special rituals like Moola Virat Abhishekam and Sri Venkateswara Swami Kalyanam.

Devotees can also participate in Archana, Kumkumarchana, Ashtothara Shathanama Archana, and Anjaneya Swamy Abhishekam-Aaku Puja every Tuesday. Prices for certain poojas are specified, allowing visitors to plan their worship accordingly.

The temple celebrates major festivals such as Brahmotsavam (September-October), Ganesh Navaratri/Vinayaka Chaviti, Vaikunta Ekadashi (December-January), Ugadi (March-April), Pavitrotsavam, and Vasantotsavam.

Prasadam offerings include laddu, pulihora, and chakkera-pongal, with free Annadanam provided daily and on special occasions. Reaching the temple is convenient, being just 3.7 km from Visakhapatnam Railway Station and 15 km from Visakhapatnam International Airport.

Directions from the railway station involve taking the main road towards Beach Road or the highway to Madhuravada, proceeding to Port Area, Chengal Rao Peta, and ascending Sri Venkateswara Konda near Ross Hill and Dargah Konda.

Ample parking is available at the hilltop, and the temple is accessible by road. Visitors are expected to follow a traditional dress code: men in dhoti or kurta-pyjama, and women in saree or churidar with dupatta, ensuring modesty.

Photography and mobile phones are not allowed inside the main sanctum, and the premises are under strict security and CCTV surveillance. Accommodation options are plentiful in Port Area, Seethammadhara, and Rushikonda, ranging from budget hotels to homestays and resorts.

Nearby attractions include Ross Hill, Dargah Konda, Rushikonda Beach, Kailasagiri Park, Bavikonda Buddhist Complex, INS Kursura Submarine Museum, and Visakha Museum. For more information, devotees can visit the official website or contact the temple directly. Online darshan services are also available for those unable to visit in person.
