About

Sri Rama Chandra Swamy Temple Ammapally, also known locally as Ammapalli Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple or Ammapalli Sri Seetha Rama Chandra Swamy Devasthanam, is a revered ancient temple and prominent pilgrimage centre situated in Ammapally, near Shamshabad in the Rangareddy district of Telangana.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama as the primary deity, with sanctums also devoted to Sita, Lakshmana, Lord Hanuman, Garuda, and the Dasavatara—the ten avatars of Vishnu. Its architecture reflects a mixed and renovated style, with historical roots tracing back to the Kalyani Chalukya dynasty.

This temple is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is managed by a Panchayat/local trust. Devotees can experience the divine presence of Lord Rama and participate in various poojas and rituals. The temple offers free darshan to all visitors.

Among the notable poojas are the Suprabhatha Seva performed in the early morning, Archana (with a nominal fee of ₹20), and Personal Sankalpam Pujas (₹100). The Masa Kalyana Utsavam is conducted monthly on Punarvasu Nakshatram.

Rituals are performed in Telugu and Sanskrit, maintaining traditional practices. The temple is open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The best time to visit is during the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM, in the winter months from November to February, or during the festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Sri Rama Navami & Sri Rama Kalyanam in Chaitra (March-April), Vaikunta Ekadasi/Dhanurmasa in Margashira/Pushya (December–January), and Karthika Masam (November–December).

During these occasions, traditional prasadam is distributed, and annadanam is organized for devotees.

Visitors are expected to follow a traditional dress code: men are encouraged to wear dhotis or pyjamas/kurta, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or chudidars, ensuring modest attire that covers shoulders and legs.

Shorts and inappropriate casual outfits may restrict entry into the sanctum. Reaching the temple is convenient—drive from Hyderabad city center towards Shamshabad via NH44, take the Nagarguda - Shamshabad Road, and proceed to Ammapally village, which is about 5 km from Shamshabad bus stop.

The temple is located near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, with Shamshabad Railway Station as the nearest rail link. Accommodation options are available in Shamshabad and near the airport.

For those interested in photography, it is strictly prohibited inside the inner shrine, but casual photography is allowed in the outer corridors and courtyards. Commercial shoots are permitted in the temple grounds for a fee, though drone cameras and colored smoke bombs are banned.

Open space parking is available, though there is no dedicated wheelchair-accessible infrastructure to the inner sanctum. While visiting, devotees can also explore nearby attractions like the Statue of Equality. For further information, the temple can be contacted at +91 9010242319.
