Katarmal Surya Temple

This temple stands as a significant ASI-protected monument, celebrated for its Nagara (North Indian) architectural style and its serene setting amidst the Kumaon hills.

The temple is attributed to King Katarmalla of the Katyuri dynasty, although its exact historical period remains unknown or disputed. The primary focus of worship at Katarmal Surya Temple is the Sun deity, with additional shrines dedicated to Shiva, Parvati, Lakshmi, and Narayana.

The temple complex, perched atop a hill, offers a tranquil environment for devotees and pilgrims seeking spiritual solace. The temple is open for darshan with free entry, allowing visitors to experience the sacred atmosphere without any fee.

Parking is available at the base near Katarmal village, but the final approach requires a 1.5 to 2 km uphill trek, making it unsuitable for wheelchair access.
