About

Kasar Devi Temple, also known locally as Kasar Devi Mandir or Mata Kasar Devi Temple, is a revered ancient hill temple dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman).

Nestled in the serene Kasar Devi village near Almora in Uttarakhand, this pilgrimage centre attracts devotees and spiritual seekers drawn to its tranquil setting and spiritual ambiance.

The temple is also home to shrines for Lord Shiva and Bhairava, making it a significant destination for those seeking blessings from multiple deities. The temple is perched on a picturesque hilltop, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Its origins are attributed to early Katyuri dynasty influences or local hill chieftains, though the exact historical period remains unknown or disputed. Despite its ancient roots, Kasar Devi Temple continues to thrive as a living heritage temple, sustaining vibrant traditions and rituals.

Devotees can visit the temple daily between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM. The best time for darshan is early morning, especially between 5–8 AM, when the atmosphere is especially peaceful.

Both summer (March–May) and winter (November–February) are considered ideal for a visit, as is the festival season when the temple comes alive with special celebrations. The temple offers free darshan to all visitors.

Poojas and rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi, allowing devotees from various backgrounds to participate. Prasadam, such as sugar candies, dry sweets, or fruits, is distributed after the aarti.

While there is no formal daily annadanam, community bhandaras are organized during major festivals, fostering a sense of togetherness among pilgrims.

Kasar Devi Temple is renowned for its vibrant festivals, including the Kasar Devi Fair (Mela) held during Kartik Poornima in November-December, as well as Sharad Navratri, Chaitra Navratri, and Deepavali.

These occasions draw large gatherings of devotees who come to seek blessings and partake in the festive spirit. Reaching Kasar Devi Temple is convenient for travelers. The nearest railway station is Kathgodam, about 90 km away, with Lalkuan Junction and Ramnagar Railway Station also accessible.

Pantnagar Airport is the closest airport at 115 km, while Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi is 380 km away. From Kathgodam or Pantnagar, visitors can take a taxi or bus to Almora, then continue by local taxi or shared jeep towards Kasar Devi along the Almora-Bageshwar highway.
