About

Kabirvad Temple, also known as Kabirvad or Kabir Vad, is a renowned pilgrimage centre located on Kabirvad Island near Shuklatirth in Bharuch, Gujarat.

Set on the tranquil banks of the Narmada River, this ancient temple is famed for its spiritual ambiance and the sprawling banyan grove that surrounds it.

The site has evolved around the meditation spot of Saint Kabir and is currently maintained by local trusts and Gujarat Tourism, making it a living heritage temple with deep cultural significance. Visitors can experience the peaceful environment of Kabirvad Temple daily between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

The best time to visit is during the winter months from November to February, especially in the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM, when the weather is pleasant and the island’s natural beauty is at its peak.

The temple welcomes devotees for free darshan, and prayers and poojas are conducted in Hindi and Gujarati.

Modest attire is recommended for all visitors; men are advised to wear casual and traditional clothing, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis that cover the legs and shoulders. Kabirvad Temple is a vibrant centre for festivals.

Major celebrations include Kabir Jayanti during May-June (Jyeshtha Purnima), Diwali and New Year in October-November, Navratri in September-October, and Holi in March.

During these occasions, the temple often hosts community meals and distributes simple prasad, such as sugar crystals (misri), to devotees. Reaching Kabirvad Temple involves a scenic journey. Pilgrims can travel to Bharuch city by train, bus, or car.

From there, local transport or a drive leads to Shuklatirth or the Kabirmadhi/Mangaleshwar ferry point, about 15-20 km from Bharuch. Designated open-air parking is available at the ferry jetty.

Visitors then take a short 10-15 minute boat or ferry ride across the Narmada River, followed by a walk to the temple. It is important to note that accessibility may be challenging for the elderly or those with mobility issues due to the boat ride and uneven terrain.

For accommodation, overnight stays are not permitted on Kabirvad Island, but Bharuch city offers several hotels such as Hyatt Place, Regenta Central Harimangla, Ginger Bharuch, and Bed & Bread Dormitory. Photography is freely allowed at the temple, with no extra permits or fees required.

Nearby attractions include the Shuklatirth Shiva Temple (5 km), Golden Bridge (16 km), Narmada Park (18 km), and Swaminarayan Mandir in Bharuch (17 km). For more details, visitors can refer to the official Gujarat Tourism website.

Kabirvad Temple remains a serene spiritual destination, inviting pilgrims and tourists to experience its unique blend of nature and devotion.
