About

Churdhar Shirgul Devta Temple, also known locally as Chureshwar Mahadev Temple or Shirgul Maharaja Temple, is a revered pilgrimage destination situated atop the majestic Churdhar Peak within the Churdhar Wildlife Sanctuary near Nohradhar, Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh.

This ancient hill temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva and also venerates Shri Shrigul Maharaj along with local goddesses and deities of Sirmaur and Shimla. The temple is often referred to by devotees as Chur Chandani, reflecting its deep-rooted spiritual significance in the region.

The temple is accessible only by a scenic trek of approximately 14–18 kilometers from Nohradhar, the base camp, through lush forests and alpine meadows. Pilgrims can reach Nohradhar by hiring a taxi or taking a state-transport bus from Chandigarh, Solan, or Nahan via Rajgarh.

The nearest railway stations are Solan (90 km) and Kalka (120 km), while Shimla Airport (Jubbarhatti) is 105 km away and Chandigarh International Airport is 130 km from the base.

Parking is available at the trailheads in Nohradhar or Sarain, but vehicles cannot go beyond this point, and the temple is not wheelchair accessible. Churdhar Shirgul Devta Temple welcomes devotees daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

The best time for darshan is early morning between 5:00 and 8:00 AM or during the pleasant summer and monsoon months from March to September, as well as in winter from November to February.

The temple observes a conservative dress code: men are required to wear full-length clothing with covered shoulders and legs, while women should opt for traditional or modest ethnic wear ensuring full coverage.

Daily poojas include the Aarti and Rudrabhishek, performed in Sanskrit, with morning rituals around 6:00–7:00 AM and evening ceremonies from 7:00–8:00 PM. Free darshan is available to all devotees.

The temple is vibrant during festivals such as Maha Shivratri (February/March), Bishu Mela (mid-April), Gugga Navami (August/September), and experiences closures during the Devathan or Sharad Yatra in November.

Pilgrims are offered simple dry prashad like misri, dry fruits, or local grains, and free community meals (langar) are served during the peak pilgrimage season.

Accommodation options include basic free or low-cost temple sarai/dharamshala at the peak, budget hotels and homestays in Nohradhar, and camping tents near the base camp. Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside or facing the main sanctum but are allowed in the outer open grounds.

Nearby attractions include the striking Shiva Statue at Churdhar Peak, Haripurdhar (35 km), Rajgarh (45 km), and Nahan (110 km), making this pilgrimage a spiritually uplifting and scenic experience in the heart of Himachal Pradesh.
