About

Chandika Devi Temple Kothi, also known locally as Maa Chandike Durga Ji Temple, Shuwang Chandika, and Koshtampi, is a revered pilgrimage centre nestled in the scenic village of Kothi in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Amman), this ancient hill temple stands as a living heritage site, managed by a local panchayat trust, and continues to draw devotees and travelers seeking spiritual solace amidst the tranquil Himalayan landscape.

Located in the Koshtampi area, the temple is easily accessible from major gateway cities such as Shimla and Chandigarh.

Pilgrims can reach Shimla or Chandigarh by rail or air, with Shimla Railway Station, Kalka Railway Station, Jubbarhatti Airport (Shimla), and Chandigarh International Airport serving as the nearest transit points.

From these cities, a drive or bus journey along the NH-5 (Hindustan-Tibet Highway) via Narkanda, Rampur, and Jeori leads to Reckong Peo, the district headquarters situated just 3 km from Kothi.

From Reckong Peo, visitors can hire a taxi, shared cab, or even trek the short distance to Kothi village and the temple itself. The temple welcomes devotees daily from 5:00 AM to 8:00 or 9:00 PM, offering free darshan to all visitors.

The best time to visit is during the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM, and the temple is accessible year-round, with winter (November to February), summer (March to May), and monsoon (June to September) each offering a unique experience of the region’s natural beauty.

Visitors are requested to observe a modest dress code: both men and women should wear conservative clothing covering shoulders and knees, and all leather items must be removed before entering the main complex.

While there is no formal parking lot, vehicles can be parked along the roadside near Kothi village. The approach includes uneven stone paths and wooden steps, making it less accessible for wheelchairs.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, but generally allowed in the outer courtyard and exterior—visitors should always confirm with the caretaker or priest before taking photos near prayer spaces.

For accommodation, local village homestays in Kothi or Kalpa provide an authentic experience, while budget hotels and guesthouses are available in Reckong Peo just 3 km away. Resorts and hotels in Kalpa, 8–10 km from the temple, offer additional options.

The area is also rich in nearby attractions, including Reckong Peo, Kalpa, Roghi Village & Suicide Point, Kamru Fort & Sangla Valley, and Chitkul, making Chandika Devi Temple Kothi a significant spiritual and cultural destination in Himachal Pradesh.
