About

Bhootnath Temple Mandi, also known locally as Baba Bhootnath Mandir, Bhootnath Mandir, or Chhoti Kashi, is an ancient temple and prominent pilgrimage centre dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Situated in the heart of Mandi town in Himachal Pradesh, the temple stands in the bustling Bhootnath Bazar and Bhootnath Gali area, making it easily accessible for devotees and visitors.

The temple is renowned for its Nagara (North Indian) architectural style, which adds to its spiritual and cultural significance in the region. The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 9:45 PM, offering ample opportunities for devotees to seek darshan and participate in various rituals.

Free darshan entry is available for all visitors, ensuring that everyone can experience the divine atmosphere of the sanctum.

The best times to visit Bhootnath Temple are during the morning hours (8 AM–12 PM), evening aarti, the festival season, and especially during the annual brahmotsavam, when the temple comes alive with vibrant celebrations.

A variety of poojas are conducted at the temple, including Rudrabhishek & Jalabhishek, Mahamrityunjaya Jaap & Havan, and several dosha pariharas such as Kaal Sarp Dosh Shanti, Manglik Dosh Nivaran, and Navgraha Shanti.

Other rituals like Vahan Pujan, Durga Saptashati Path, Satyanarayan Pooja, and ceremonies such as Mundan and Upanayan are also performed. These poojas are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi, catering to the linguistic preferences of the devotees. The temple is especially vibrant during major festivals.

The International Shivratri Fair (Maha Shivaratri), celebrated in February-March, draws large crowds, as do the Shravan (Sawan) Mondays in July-August.

During these times, community feasts (bhandaras/langars) are organized, and prasadam such as bhang, bilva leaves, sacred ash, mishri, and dry fruits or sweets are distributed to devotees.

For those planning a visit, modest and traditional attire is recommended—men should wear full-length trousers and shirts, avoiding shorts or sleeveless vests, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or other modest ethnic wear.

Photography is permitted in the outer courtyard and architectural areas, but strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum near the Shiva lingam.

There is no dedicated parking at the temple; visitors can use the nearby municipal parking in Mandi town center and walk approximately five minutes to reach the temple.

Accommodation options are available in Mandi town, making it convenient for pilgrims who wish to stay close to the temple and immerse themselves in its spiritual ambiance.
