About

Bhimakali Temple Sarahan, also known locally as Bhima Kali Ji, stands as a revered Shakti Peeth in the picturesque hill town of Sarahan in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh.

Dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti, this ancient temple is an important pilgrimage centre and holds significant spiritual value for devotees across the region. The temple complex also houses sanctums for deities Narsingha and Raghunath, adding to its religious prominence.

The temple’s unique architecture, classified as ‘Other’, reflects its ancient roots and royal heritage, having been built by the early rulers of the Bushahr Kingdom and later restored by Raja Padam Singh.

Bhimakali Temple Sarahan is recognized as a state heritage site and is managed by a local panchayat trust, ensuring the preservation of its cultural and spiritual legacy. Pilgrims visiting the temple can participate in various poojas and aartis conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi.

The daily schedule includes the Morning Aarti at 6:00 AM during summer and 7:30 AM in winter, followed by a Second Aarti approximately two hours later, Noon Aarti at 12:00 PM, and the Evening Aarti at 7:00 PM.

The temple is open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with free entry for all devotees. The best time to visit Bhimakali Temple Sarahan is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), evening aarti, or during the vibrant festival seasons.

Major festivals celebrated here include Navratri (Chaitra and Shardiya), Durga Ashtami, Dussehra (Vijayadashami), Fulaich Fair, Sair Fair, and Diwali, attracting large numbers of devotees and creating a festive atmosphere.

During these times, community meals or bhandaras are organized, and prasadam such as mishri, dry fruits, or local sweets and halwa is distributed after aartis.

Visitors are required to follow a modest dress code: men should wear long trousers and shirts with covered shoulders, while women are expected to wear salwar kameez, full-length skirts, or trousers with modest tops.

Head covering is recommended for both, and footwear and leather items are not allowed inside the temple. For those arriving by vehicle, dedicated parking is available near the temple, though it can fill up quickly during peak seasons.

Limited wheelchair accessibility is provided up to the outer courtyard. Photography is permitted in the outer courtyard and exterior, but cameras, mobile phones, and electronic gadgets are strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum.

For further information or specific inquiries, devotees can contact the temple at +91 1782 274248. Bhimakali Temple Sarahan remains a cherished destination for spiritual seekers and pilgrims visiting Himachal Pradesh.
