About

Sankat Mochan Temple Shimla, also known as Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and Neem Karoli Baba Ashram, is a revered hill temple and pilgrimage centre located in the Bagh area of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

Dedicated primarily to Lord Hanuman, the temple complex also features shrines for Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, the Navagraha, and Neem Karoli Baba. Its architecture is a blend of mixed and renovated styles, reflecting its modern and recent origins.

The temple was established by Neem Karoli Baba, with construction overseen by his disciples Raja Bajrang Bahadur Singh and Shri Bhagwan Sahai.

Situated conveniently along the Kalka–Shimla National Highway (NH-5), the temple is about 5–7 km before central Shimla, making it easily accessible for pilgrims and visitors. Those arriving from Shimla ISBT or Mall Road can drive or hire a taxi towards the Bagh locality.

On-site free parking is available, and the temple provides wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking spots, ensuring accessibility for all devotees. The approach involves scenic hill driving with hairpin bends, adding to the spiritual journey.

The temple is open throughout the year, with summer timings from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM and winter timings from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Please note the daily closure from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

The best time to visit Sankat Mochan Temple Shimla is during the morning hours (8 AM–12 PM), evening aarti, or during the festival seasons of Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti (March-April), and Dussehra (September-October).

Devotees can participate in various poojas, including the Halwa Prasad Seva on Tuesdays for a fee, and sponsorship of community meals (Langar) with traditional Pahari Dham or Kangri Dham menus.

Daily distribution of sweets and boondi prasad is offered, with a special halwa prasad on Tuesdays and a large free Sunday langar for all visitors. Poojas are conducted in Hindi and Sanskrit. Entry for darshan is free of charge.

The temple maintains a modest dress code: men are encouraged to wear full-length trousers or jeans with shirts or t-shirts, while women should opt for salwar kameez, full-length skirts, or jeans with modest tops.

Photography, video recording, and use of mobile phones or cameras are strictly prohibited inside the main Hanuman shrine, but allowed in the outer complex and courtyards.

For those planning a longer stay, Shimla city offers multiple hotels, guesthouses, and homestays just a short drive from the temple. The nearest railway station is Shimla Railway Station, and the closest airport is Shimla Airport (Jubbarhatti).

Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Jakhu Temple and Tara Devi Temple. For more information, devotees may contact the temple at +91 94508 85611.
