About

Tani Jubbar Nag Temple, also known by local names such as Tanni Jubbar Nag Temple and Nag Devta Temple at Tani Jubbar, is a revered hill temple nestled in the scenic region between Narkanda and Thanedar in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh.

This ancient pilgrimage centre is dedicated primarily to Nag Devta, along with other local folk deities and regional guardian spirits, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings and tranquility in the lap of the Himalayas.

Located beside the serene Tani Jubbar Lake, the temple is easily accessible from Shimla by taking NH-5 towards Theog, Narkanda, and Kinnaur.

From Narkanda, visitors travel towards Thanedar and Kotgarh, continuing for about 12 kilometers to reach the picturesque lake, with the temple just a short walk away.

The nearest railway stations are Shimla Railway Station, approximately 70 km away, and Kalka Railway Station, about 160 km from the temple. For those traveling by air, Shimla Airport (Jubbarhatti) is 92 km away, while Chandigarh International Airport is at a distance of 180 km.

The temple welcomes devotees daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offering free darshan to all visitors. Daily prayers and offerings to Nag Devta are conducted in Sanskrit, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

The best time to visit Tani Jubbar Nag Temple is during the summer months from March to May or the monsoon season from June to September. Morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM and the evening aarti time are especially recommended for a peaceful darshan experience.

A highlight of the temple calendar is the Tani Jubbar Fair (Tani Jubbar Mela), celebrated annually in July. During this vibrant event, devotees can participate in special poojas, receive simple prasad such as sweets, dry fruits, and panchamrit, and enjoy community feasts or snack stalls.

While there is no daily annadanam, these festive occasions bring the community together in celebration.

Visitors are expected to dress modestly; men should opt for conservative casual wear, while women are encouraged to wear attire such as salwar kameez, full-length skirts, or jeans with a top, avoiding revealing or short clothing.

Photography is permitted around the lake and outer temple courtyard, but restrictions apply inside the sanctum, so it is advisable to check local signage or consult the caretaker.

Parking is available near the lake entrance, usually free or for a nominal fee, though it may be limited during the annual fair. The area features a paved walking path around the lake, but the inner temple may have steps and uneven terrain.

For accommodation, pilgrims can choose from options such as HPTDC Hotel Deodar in Narkanda, The Banjara Orchard Retreat in Thanedar, and various homestays and guesthouses in Thanedar, Kotgarh, and Narkanda.

Nearby attractions include Tani Jubbar Lake & Eco Park, Thanedar’s Sattyanand Stokes Farm & Church, Kotgarh, Narkanda’s Hatu Peak & Hatu Mata Temple, and the Shilaru Hockey Stadium, offering visitors a chance to explore the natural and cultural beauty of the region during their spiritual journey.
