Badrinath Temple (Badri Vishal)

Situated on the left bank of the Alaknanda River near Tapt Kund, this ancient hill temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is recognized as a Divya Desam, attracting devotees from across India and beyond.

The temple is home to the main deity, Lord Vishnu, and also houses idols of Kuber, Narad Rishi, Uddhava, Nar, Narayan, Lakshmi, and Garuda. Its unique architecture and spiritual significance make it a living heritage temple managed by a local trust.

The temple’s historical origins are traditionally attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, with later expansions by the Kings of Garhwal and a major reconstruction by the Maharaja of Jaipur in the 19th century.

Badrinath Temple operates daily from 4:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, but remains closed during the winter months from November to April or May. The best times for darshan are early mornings between 5–8 AM, during morning hours, and at evening aarti time.

Entry for darshan is free, and devotees can participate in various poojas such as Maha Abhishek, Ved Path, Geeta Path, Karpoor Aarti, Chandi Aarti, Vishnu Sahasranamawali, and Shayan Aarti, with poojas conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi. Akhand Jyoti sponsorship is also available for devotees.

The temple observes several important festivals, including the Badrinath Kapat Opening on Akshaya Tritiya (April-May), Badri-Kedar Utsav (June-July/August), Mata Murti Ka Mela (September), Krishna Janmashtami (August), and the Kapat Closing on Bhai Dooj (November).

For those planning a visit, Badrinath is accessible by motorable road, with no trek required. Pilgrims can travel from Delhi to Haridwar, then to Rishikesh, Rudraprayag, Joshimath, and finally Badrinath.

The nearest railway stations are Rishikesh (295 km) and Haridwar Junction (310 km), while the closest airports are Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun (314 km) and Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi (525 km).

Dedicated parking is available in Badrinath town, with the final stretch to the temple covered on foot or by pony/palanquin for the elderly.
