About

Akshardham Temple Gandhinagar, also known as Swaminarayan Akshardham Mandir or Akshardham Gujarat, stands as a renowned pilgrimage centre in Sector 20 of Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

This modern marvel, inspired by Yogiji Maharaj and constructed under the guidance of Pramukh Swami Maharaj by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, showcases the grandeur of Nagara (North Indian) architecture.

The temple is dedicated to multiple revered deities, including Gunatitanand Swami, Shri Sita-Ram, Shri Radha-Krishna, Shri Lakshmi-Narayan, and Shri Parvati-Mahadev, making it a spiritually enriching destination for devotees and visitors alike.

The temple welcomes pilgrims and tourists from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM, remaining closed on Mondays. Free darshan is available to all, and the temple offers poojas such as the Morning Aarti at 10:00 AM and the Evening Aarti at 6:30 PM, both without any fee.

Devotees can also participate in the Abhishek Mandapam (Neelkanth Varni Abhishek) from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM for a nominal charge. Poojas are conducted in Gujarati, Hindi, and English, ensuring accessibility for a diverse group of visitors.

Festivals are celebrated with great fervor at Akshardham Temple Gandhinagar. Major events include Diwali and Hindu New Year (Annakoot) in October-November, Swaminarayan Jayanti/Ram Navami in March-April, Janmashtami in August-September, Guru Purnima in July, and Sharad Purnima in October.

Free sanctified prasad is distributed during major festival days, while pure vegetarian food is available daily at the on-site Premvati restaurant.

Visitors are required to adhere to a strict dress code: men should wear traditional or formal attire such as trousers and full-length shirts or kurtas, while women are expected to dress modestly in sarees, salwar kameez, or similar traditional outfits.

Shorts, sleeveless tops, and short dresses are not permitted. For security and sanctity, mobile phones, cameras, and electronic recording devices are strictly prohibited inside the premises and must be deposited at complimentary lockers near the entrance.

Reaching Akshardham Temple Gandhinagar is convenient. The temple is approximately 6 km from Gandhinagar Capital Railway Station and 21 km from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

From Ahmedabad, visitors can travel via the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway or take a bus to Gandhinagar Bus Depot, followed by a short auto-rickshaw or taxi ride to Sector 20.

Ample paid parking is available, and the premises are wheelchair accessible with ramps and complimentary wheelchairs provided with ID.

For those planning a longer stay, there are multiple accommodation options nearby, such as The Leela Gandhinagar, Fortune Inn Haveli, Pathikashram Nilaya, and several budget hotels within a 2 km radius.

Popular attractions in the vicinity include Dandi Kutir Museum, Punit Van, Indroda Nature Park, Adalaj Stepwell, and Sabarmati Ashram, making Akshardham Temple Gandhinagar an ideal destination for both spiritual seekers and tourists.
