About

Sui Mata Temple, also known locally as Suhi Mata Mandir or Sui Mata Mandir, is a revered hill temple dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Amman) in the Chowgan Mohalla area of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.

This ancient pilgrimage centre stands atop a hill, offering devotees a serene spiritual retreat and panoramic views of the Chamba valley. The temple is recognized as a living heritage site, drawing pilgrims and visitors seeking darshan and blessings from the presiding deity.

The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, allowing ample time for devotees to plan their visit. The best time to visit Sui Mata Temple is during the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM or during the evening aarti, when the temple atmosphere is especially vibrant.

The festival season, particularly the Suhi Mata Mela held from mid-March to mid-April, attracts large numbers of devotees. During this annual festival, special poojas are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi, and devotees receive prasad and refreshments, making it a significant spiritual event in Chamba.

To reach Sui Mata Temple, visitors can travel to Chamba town by road from nearby cities such as Pathankot or Dharamshala. From the central Chamba Chowgan area, proceed to Chowgan Mohalla.

The temple is accessible by walking up a paved flight of stairs or taking a short local cab ride via the connecting concrete road to the hilltop.

Please note that there is no dedicated parking at the temple gate; visitors should use parking zones in Chamba town or Chowgan and continue on foot or by cab. The temple is not wheelchair accessible due to the stair climb required.

Devotees are encouraged to observe the temple dress code: men should wear traditional or modest casual attire, avoiding shorts or sleeveless clothing inside the sanctum, while women are advised to dress modestly in traditional or casual wear with covered shoulders and chests, and to carry a scarf or dupatta for prayers.

Free darshan is available to all visitors. Photography is permitted in the outer courtyards and at panoramic viewpoints, but is strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum. Flowers, fruits, and sweets offered by devotees are returned as prasadam.

While there is no formal daily annadanam, prasad is distributed during the annual Suhi Mata Mela. For food and accommodation, visitors can find a range of restaurants, cafés, and local eateries in Chamba town and the Chowgan market area, ensuring a comfortable stay during their pilgrimage.
