Ram Mandir Ramtek

This ancient temple, also known locally as Gad Mandir, Ramtek Fort Temple, and Sindur Giri, stands as an important pilgrimage centre and is recognized as both a state heritage site and an ASI-protected monument.

The temple’s Nagara (North Indian) architectural style and its location within the historic Ramtek Fort complex add to its spiritual and cultural significance. The primary deity worshipped here is Lord Rama, accompanied by Sita and Lakshmana.

The temple also houses sanctums for Lord Narasimha in his various forms (Keval Narasimha, Rudra Narasimha), Lord Varaha, Trivikrama, Mahakali, Kalika, Shantinatha, and other Jain Tirthankaras, making it a unique confluence of Vaishnavite and Jain traditions.

The temple’s roots trace back to the Maratha period, with significant contributions from Raghuji Bhonsale, the Maratha ruler of Nagpur, and earlier associations with the Vakataka and Yadava dynasties.

Devotees can participate in a range of poojas and rituals, including Suprabhata Seva, Shodashopachara Puja, Abhishekam, and Archana. Daily aartis are performed: Morning Aarti at 6:00 AM, Afternoon Aarti at 12:00 PM, and Evening Aarti between 6:45 PM and 7:00 PM.

Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit, Marathi, and Hindi, catering to a diverse group of pilgrims. Free darshan is available for all visitors, and the temple is open from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The best time to visit Ram Mandir Ramtek is during winter (November to February), the monsoon season (June to September), or early morning hours (5–8 AM) for a serene darshan experience.

Major festivals celebrated here include Ram Navami (Rama Janmotsav) in March–April, the Ramtek Adventure and Heritage Tourism Festival in March, Tripurari Purnima/Kartika Purnima in November–December, and Vijayadashami (Dussehra) in September–October.

To reach the temple, travelers can arrive in Nagpur and take NH44 or the state highway northeast towards Ramtek, a journey of about 50–55 km. Upon entering Ramtek town, proceed to the base of Ramgiri Hill.

Visitors can drive up the motorable road to the hilltop parking area and then climb 25–30 steps to the temple, or park at the base and ascend the historic stone steps. The nearest railway stations are Ramtek (3 km), Nagpur Junction (50 km), and Itwari Junction (45 km). The closest airport is Dr.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main shrine but allowed in the outer fort complex. Prasadam, including sweets and dry fruits, is distributed after aartis and on festival days, with free community lunch (maha prasad) served on Saturdays and Sundays.
