About

Parshuram Temple Nirmand, also locally known as Parshuram Kothi or Shri Parshuram Kothi, stands as a revered pilgrimage centre in the Main Market area of Nirmand, Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh.

Often referred to as the “Kashi of the Himalayas,” this ancient hill temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu and is attributed in local tradition to Lord Parshurama.

The temple’s structure reflects the region’s traditional hill architecture, shaped over centuries by regional dynasties, and is recognized as both an ASI protected and State heritage site.

The temple complex is not only a spiritual destination for devotees of Lord Vishnu but also houses shrines and stone sculptures of Ambika (Goddess Durga/Mahishasuramardini) and various regional and Vedic deities, making it a significant site for seekers of divine blessings.

The sanctum and surrounding courtyards exude a serene, ancient ambiance, drawing pilgrims and visitors seeking darshan and a glimpse into the area’s rich spiritual heritage. Darshan at Parshuram Temple Nirmand is free for all visitors.

The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with a midday pause around 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, though timings may vary seasonally.

The best time to visit is during the winter months from November to February, especially in the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM, when the temple atmosphere is especially tranquil. Poojas and rituals are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi, maintaining the temple’s traditional practices.

Major festivals celebrated here include the Bhunda Festival, held once every 12 years, Boodhi Diwali in November–December, and Parshurama Jayanti during April or May (on Akshaya Tritiya).

These occasions are marked by special rituals, community feasts (dhaam), and the distribution of traditional sattvik prasadam such as misri, dry fruits, and local fruits after daily aartis.

Visitors are expected to adhere to a modest dress code: men should wear full-length trousers or jeans with shirts or kurtas, while women are encouraged to wear traditional attire such as salwar kameez, saree, or churidar.

Shorts, sleeveless vests, and revealing western wear are discouraged inside the sanctum. Parking is available along the approaching roadsides or near the main market area, but a short walk is required to reach the temple.

The site’s traditional architecture includes stairs and thresholds, and it currently lacks modern wheelchair accessibility.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, though casual photography is allowed in the outer courtyards and exteriors with permission from local caretakers, especially during rituals.

Parshuram Temple Nirmand offers a unique blend of spiritual significance, ancient heritage, and scenic Himalayan surroundings, making it a must-visit for pilgrims and culture enthusiasts exploring Himachal Pradesh.
